You might think that dogs are strict carnivores, but not this “chow hound”. I know how important it is to get those five servings of fruits and veggies every day for your overall health. It has also been used to help with respiratory infections, and there have been reports of its effective use in helping to relieve cold and flu symptoms.

More recently Raspberry Ketones, in supplement form, have been recommended as a metabolism boosting, fat-burning weight loss supplement, with similar effects of acai berries.

The link between Raspberry Ketones and weight loss was first reported in a study published in the medical journal Life Sciences, in 1995. In the peer-reviewed study, Japanese researchers concluded that a raspberry ketone supplement prevented obesity in mice that were feed a high fat diet. The study was reported in 2005 with similar results. On a molecular level, Raspberry ketones are very similar to capsaicin found in chili pepper plants, which has also been shown to offer the same kind of anti-obesity effect.

Raspberry ketones are aromatic compounds derived from red raspberries. They are what give the taste and aroma to raspberry flavored and scented foods and products. The Japanese researchers concluded that the obesity protection in the mice was provided by the ketones ability to “significantly increase norepinephrine-induced lipolysis associated with the translocation of hormone-sensitive lipase from the cytosol to lipid droplets in white fat cells.” Wow, that’s a mouthful, but basically what it means is they found that raspberry ketones stimulate cells to burn-up more stored fat.

    • I would definitely ask a doctor, as I do not know for sure. I do know that women who have any problems with estrogen dominance might want to shy away from these, as they act like estrogen in the body. Sorry I’m not more help on these two medications.
