Potassium is an electrolyte that we need in trace amounts. Potassium gluconate is used to boost blood levels of potassium. Potassium, sodium and chloride all work together in the body to regulate things like fluid levels and heart beat. Why would someone put potassium gluconate in a diet pill? One of the most common side effects of potassium gluconate is diarrhea, so it may be that they use it for its potential laxative effect. So, not a good way to lose weight PLUS excessive amounts of potassium can totally screw up your system. Electrolytes in your body need to be in balance in order to work properly. ALSO! If you are already on any type of medications, DO NOT take potassium gluconate tablets or supplements containing potassium gluconate unless your doctor prescribes it!
