Nutrisystem is a weight loss program that delivers food right to your door. Eat the low-glycemic index meals and snacks six times a day and weight loss is sure to ensue.
Hey… nothing wrong with convenience (if you can afford it) and the food is pretty healthy. Many people do lose weight with Nutrisystem, but there are some caveats…
Weight Loss Solutions in a Box (or Diet Food that Tastes Like Socks?)
Cons (Yucky Food? Or Not Proven?)
|Convenience: Foods shipped directly to your home.||There are quite a few complaints out there about the taste of the food, but this could be due to the type of food it is… keep reading.|
|Convenience Revisited…||All your food is not included; you must supply and prepare your own fruits and vegetables. It is NOT “ALL” of your food.|
|Menu is based on the “proven science” of the low glycemic index to help keep your blood sugar stable and hunger levels at bay.||Proven… or disproven? (you might be surprised!)|
|Food is portioned to help you lose weight.||No complaints here. Americans eat too much and learning how much you should eat is good stuff!|
Low in Sugar, High in Fiber… Sounds Right, BUT….
Some folks just want it all laid out for them. And Nutrisystem has done just that. BUT, the food itself is not all that appealing to everyone. If you can handle shelf foods and frozen cuisine that you nuke, then great. If you have a more demanding palate, forget it.
And what of this low glycemic index food? Low blood sugar is what triggers hunger and when you eat something like refined carbohydrates, blood sugar spikes and then drops quickly.
If you eat high fiber carbs mixed with protein, your blood sugar is more stable. Theoretically, this should keep you full and less tempted to overeat… and this is the menu design.
Research, Research, Research…
Nutrisystem hired a company to do an independent study (1), which showed that Nutrisystem helped participants lose an average of 9-11% of their body weight in 13 weeks.
BUT, a review printed in Obesity Reviews says glycemic index may not make any difference.(2) After reviewing 31 studies, there was a lack of evidence to support the theory that a low-glycemic index diet promotes weight loss more than a high-glycemic index diet.
Either way, this does not mean they have to taste bad! In fact, healthy foods can taste great IF you know what you’re doing…

Great download! I am a real skeptic – especially with downloads, but I have to say I was pleasantly surprised by your write-up. It makes sense! A friend recommended Sensa and after reading your site, I am (once again) too skeptical to try.”
