Lemon Peel

Lemon peel contains pectin. Pectin is a soluble fiber (see apple pectin) so theoretically, eating lemon peel (yuck) or taking a diet pill with lemon peel might help you lose weight. The problem? One tablespoon of lemon peel only contains 1 gram of fiber. We need roughly 25 grams of fiber per day to maintain digestive health. That’s a lot of lemon peels! Shoving fiber into a pill is not easy either. If you are going to take a fiber supplement, use a powder along with a healthy diet that includes plenty of fruits, vegetables and whole grains.
Amount needed: 25 grams of fiber per day of both soluble and insoluble fiber via your diet and/or supplementation. Ease into 25 grams if you are not used to taking in this much fiber.
