You might think that dogs are strict carnivores, but not this “chow hound”. I know how important it is to get those five servings of fruits and veggies every day for your overall health. And as a bit of foodie, I know how delicious raspberry jams and jellies are, and on a hot summers day nothing beats a cool and refreshing raspberry smoothie, unless of course you are talking about a nice hot raspberry tea curled up by the fireplace an a cool winters night! But even I did not realize all of the fruitful benefits of this bountiful berry, until I began my investigation of Raspberry Ketone.

The red raspberry (Rabus idaeus) fruit itself, and its leaves have been used medicinally for centuries. In modern times scientific studies have shown that raspberries, like all dark-skinned berries are high in antioxidants, which is the main source of its curative powers. According to WebMD, in addition to its antioxidants, there are chemicals within red raspberries that act to relax blood vessels and muscles. This is why raspberry leaf teas and extracts have been used to help with menstrual pain, and in some cultures labor pain.

Red Raspberry leaf and fruit has also been used historically to treat many different gastrointestinal (GI) tract disorders, including diarrhea and Irritable Bowel Syndrome. It has also been used to help with respiratory infections, and there have been reports of its effective use in helping to relieve cold and flu symptoms.

More recently Raspberry Ketones, in supplement form, have been recommended as a metabolism boosting, fat-burning weight loss supplement, with similar effects of acai berries.

The link between Raspberry Ketones and weight loss was first reported in a study published in the medical journal Life Sciences, in 1995. In the peer-reviewed study, Japanese researchers concluded that a raspberry ketone supplement prevented obesity in mice that were feed a high fat diet. The study was reported in 2005 with similar results. On a molecular level, Raspberry ketones are very similar to capsaicin found in chili pepper plants, which has also been shown to offer the same kind of anti-obesity effect.

Raspberry ketones are aromatic compounds derived from red raspberries. They are what give the taste and aroma to raspberry flavored and scented foods and products. The Japanese researchers concluded that the obesity protection in the mice was provided by the ketones ability to “significantly increase norepinephrine-induced lipolysis associated with the translocation of hormone-sensitive lipase from the cytosol to lipid droplets in white fat cells.” Wow, that’s a mouthful, but basically what it means is they found that raspberry ketones stimulate cells to burn-up more stored fat.

How to Use Raspberry Ketones

Raspberry Ketone comes in capsules or powders that are designed to deliver from100 to 300 mg/day. Its most common usage is in 100mg capsules taken twice a day.

Who Should Use It?

According to The Hound’s good friend Dr.Oz, one of the first to champion Raspberry Ketones for weight loss, it is recommended for those who want to lose pounds and inches around the belly and the bottom, two areas that are particularly problematical for women. But it is good for anyone who is 15 or more pounds overweight to supplement any diet or weightloss program in an all-natural and safe way.

The Good

There are many miraculous effectiveness claims about a variety of weightloss supplements. The two things that differentiate Raspberry Ketones in a very positive way are that these claims are backed up by verifiable scientific evidence, and that unlike many other supplements, Raspberry Ketone is chemical and additive free and 100% natural. So even if you do not achieve the phenomenal weightloss reported by some of its users, you can virtually do no harm by trying it out.

The Bad

According to the FDA raspberry ketones qualify as a substance generally recognized as safe for human consumption. Since supplemental Raspberry Ketones are made from 100% natural raspberries, there really are no side effects to report, and should only be avoided by people with known allergies to raspberries or similar fruits. WebMD does caution that since compounds in raspberries could have a pseudo-estrogen effect, women with ovarian cancer or other “estrogen hungry” cancers, or hormonal disorders, should consult their physicians before using Raspberry Ketone.

When compared to other “thermogenic” or fat-burning nutritional supplements, Raspberry ketones have similar abilities to increase cellular fat consumption and raise resting metabolism. But it does so without the accompanying increased risk of over-stimulation of the cardiovascular system of some of these other supplements.

The Bottom Line

There are many supplements for weightloss on the market, but few are derived from a proven powerful superfood such as the raspberry. That fact alone is reason enough for this hound to recommend that you add Raspberry Ketones to your daily weight control regimen. Just about all of the suppliers that offer Raspberry Ketone Supplements will offer you a full refund if you are not completely satisfied with the product and its effectiveness. So for peace of mind about safety, satisfaction, and efficacy, you could be “berry” happy with Raspberry Ketones!

“Henry,

Great download! I am a real skeptic – especially with downloads, but I have to say I was pleasantly surprised by your write-up. It makes sense! A friend recommended Sensa and after reading your site, I am (once again) too skeptical to try.”

Thanks again,
Beth

    • I would definitely ask a doctor, as I do not know for sure. I do know that women who have any problems with estrogen dominance might want to shy away from these, as they act like estrogen in the body. Sorry I’m not more help on these two medications.
