Nutrisystem is a weight loss program that delivers food right to your door. Eat the low-glycemic index meals and snacks six times a day and weight loss is sure to ensue.

Hey… nothing wrong with convenience (if you can afford it) and the food is pretty healthy. Many people do lose weight with Nutrisystem, but there are some caveats…

Weight Loss Solutions in a Box (or Diet Food that Tastes Like Socks?)

Pros

Cons (Yucky Food? Or Not Proven?)

Convenience: Foods shipped directly to your home. There are quite a few complaints out there about the taste of the food, but this could be due to the type of food it is… keep reading.
Convenience Revisited… All your food is not included; you must supply and prepare your own fruits and vegetables. It is NOT “ALL” of your food.
Menu is based on the “proven science” of the low glycemic index to help keep your blood sugar stable and hunger levels at bay. Proven… or disproven? (you might be surprised!)
Food is portioned to help you lose weight. No complaints here. Americans eat too much and learning how much you should eat is good stuff!

Low in Sugar, High in Fiber… Sounds Right, BUT….

Some folks just want it all laid out for them. And Nutrisystem has done just that. BUT, the food itself is not all that appealing to everyone. If you can handle shelf foods and frozen cuisine that you nuke, then great. If you have a more demanding palate, forget it.

And what of this low glycemic index food? Low blood sugar is what triggers hunger and when you eat something like refined carbohydrates, blood sugar spikes and then drops quickly.

If you eat high fiber carbs mixed with protein, your blood sugar is more stable. Theoretically, this should keep you full and less tempted to overeat… and this is the menu design.

Research, Research, Research…

Nutrisystem hired a company to do an independent study (1), which showed that Nutrisystem helped participants lose an average of 9-11% of their body weight in 13 weeks.

BUT, a review printed in Obesity Reviews says glycemic index may not make any difference.(2) After reviewing 31 studies, there was a lack of evidence to support the theory that a low-glycemic index diet promotes weight loss more than a high-glycemic index diet.

Either way, this does not mean they have to taste bad! In fact, healthy foods can taste great IF you know what you’re doing…

“Henry,

Great download! I am a real skeptic – especially with downloads, but I have to say I was pleasantly surprised by your write-up. It makes sense! A friend recommended Sensa and after reading your site, I am (once again) too skeptical to try.”

Thanks again,
Beth

  1. We have been on it for about a month. We have NO problems with the food or the way are to prepare it. We always had fresh salad in the refrig. and now still do!

  2. If their aim is to get you to eat healthier, why don’t they use who wheat in their noodles and other wheat products (muffins, cereal etc)? Doesn’t whole grain keep you fuller, have more protein, fiber etc? I like the fact that everything is pre-portioned, but some of the frozen “dinners” are…. well, quite disgusting! For the price you pay for this program, they should include snacks, not just “dessert”… I have lost 4 pounds in one week, but what this is doing is forcing me to diet because I don’t want to have wasted all the money I just spent lol!

  3. I was on it for the first 28 day order, lost 10 lbs. Food was mostly just ok. The frozen dinner meals were pretty good. Helped teach me proper meal size again 🙂 Going to put the Hound’s eating plan in place now and read more about Isabel De Los Rios advice. She gives some very good sound advice I think.
P.S. If you do try Nutrisystem beware of cancelling early like I did, you lose all your discounts of 10% and free shipping.

  4. I don’t know about anyone else, but after about ten days on the nutrisystem diet, I began to lose a noticeble amount of weight. A even though I didn’t care for all of the meals, I did have the option to change them the next time around. Which I did. Eventually I ended up losing about 40 + lbs. I recomended this diet to about 5 people and most of them had similar results. Not every diet is for every person, whether they can afford it or not. So you can’t decide that if a certain diet dosen’t work for you, it’s not going to work for all those everyones. Just move on and stick to what’s good for you. As for me, I’ll stick with nutrisystem.

  5. I was on Nitrisystems for 5 weeks and lost a whopping 2lbs, followed the diet without any cheating. Very disappointed for how much it costs.

  6. Nutrisystem is good…so far. I have 100+ pounds to lose so its going to be a long road. I have been on it a week and lost 4 lbs. The food is pretty good, a little weird that nothing has to be refrigerated, but pretty tasty. The portions are small…probably normal sized, but I am certainly used to overeating! If you eat plenty of veggies, you can stay full all day.

I have found that my cravings after dinner as definitely better. Normally, my willpower gets the best of me after dinner and I end up cheating. I have found some self-control on this diet, which is amazing!

Worth the money? So far, yes!

  7. Wow, this stuff is just pricey, you are buying air. Worst, the amount of sodium is shocking. I lost 50 lbs in 6 months by portion reducing alone, no change in my pizza, spaghetti, Philly Cheesesteak, burger diet. I just 1/2 what i used to eat. I replaced those huge dinner plates with lunch plates, you betcha that helps. Seeing a largely empty plate, sucks, by skrinking the plate, the serving looks bigger, yeah it is all in your head, but thre is something to it. Stuff I like to drink, I did cut out all soft drinks, I use a small cup like you give a child. I may load it up twice, but the third time I balked because it seems to much. Cereal is served in smaller bowls, where the single serve numbers are followed from the box, i.e. 1 cup, 3/4 cups. Eating out, will cut a non franchised hamburger in half, and walk away if needed, fries, I ordered the child’s size, checked the number of servings in a standard adult size. Eating slowing, don’t laugh, the European style of the fork in the left hand, fork used pointing downward, knife in the right, slows you down. A beer, I drink 1/2. Buy those low fat single serve cookies that are individual wrapped, cheaper than nutrisystem and a little more in the package. This style of eating cost no more, maybe less than Nutrisystem. Just for laughs, buy a child’s meal at a franchise, replacing the soft drink with milk. This is what an adult would have gotten in the 60s when Mickey Dee first opened, before they started selling you 3 servings in their regular/supersize crap. Would I like to eat spaghetti piled on a plate that a medium pizza would fit? Yeah, do I, no. Yeah, it sucks.

  8. First heard about you and Isabel several years ago. Couldn’t afford the books, but found myself going back and listening to the video over and over. Finally was able to purchase under this new name. I really like you both; you seem like very sincere people and I wish I knew you for real, like neighbors and friends. Am very challenged but learning every day. So grateful. Thanks.
