Can the “6 Week Body Makeover” Really Make You “Slim in 6?”

How will you accomplish this? Well, first you take a metabolism quiz, find out your body type, and then follow a meal plan designed for your body type. Also included are various support materials…

The Claim

The Problem

By eating right for your type and only working out 15-18 minutes 2 times a week, you will lose up to 30 pounds in 6 weeks…Somehow it is eating “wrong” for your type that is the source of all of your weight loss problems. The research in support of losing weight based on eating for your, “food type” is less than solid.Even more important, the idea that you can only workout two times a week for only 15-18 minutes and lose this amount of weight simply defies all logic.


The 6 Week Body Makeover Eating Plan…

The fact that you have an eating plan and recipes is great. However, although there are schools of thought that say different body types metabolize food differently, it is most likely the reason for anyone’s success on the program is based the fact that his plans for all types involve eating less calories than your taking in.

On a positive note, lots of diet plans do not come with recipes, so this is a nice detail. And eating right for your type might make you feel better and allow you to stick to a plan a little easier.

The Real Problem: The Workout Claims…

-He claims that because the workouts are “targeted” that just 15-18 minutes, twice a week, is all it takes to begin to reshape all your problems areas.

By doing only those body sculpting exercises that are right for you, you can stop killing yourself in the gym, start working out less, and get the results that you desire.

Grrr. I smell a cat…er, a rat.

I am sorry to be the one to tell you this, but if you are thirty pounds overweight and you want to get in shape, working out for 15 minutes twice a week will not get you to where you want to go. Not in 6 weeks. Not in 16.

So What Can You Do to Lose Weight Fast?

You must workout thirty minutes per day, minimum, and you must add cardio to your daily ‘diet’ of exercise. Weight training is both great and necessary, but it will not do it all. If you are overweight, you must get moving-any cardiovascular exercise will do the trick, at first. I suggest you save your money and invest in a good pair of running shoes and some hand weights. But either way, eating healthy and working out are the only ways to get that better body in 6 weeks.

  1. The 18 minute body sculpting program you mentioned is not the only part of the 6 Week Body Makeover. You must incorporate walking into your routine — 45 to 60 minutes 6x per week is recommended but beginners are encourage to start slow and not overdo it.
    This is like many diet programs out there – it gives you a menu to follow, strength training exercises AND a menu. Naturally if you stick with it you will lose weight — as you would with any weight loss plans that incorporates all these features. I assume this review was based only on the minimal information offered on the 6 week Body Makeover home page.
    I find that this “6 Week” works for me because I am the type that needs (and does best on) a “regimented” format.

  2. Well the 75 lb I have lost says it worked for me. Yes, you eat healthy foods and are incuraged to walk and, do resistance excersizes that target problem areas. For me it was more than I use to do because I was not doing anything. In short I have no complaints. I’m healthier than I have been in years and, I learned what I need to do to stay that way. Well worth the price.

  3. Michael Thurmond’s 6 Week Body Makeover worked wonders for me. I went from a tight size 22 to a size 12 in seven months – 55 pounds of fat gone. Full of energy and no muscle loss. The big plus is you really learn what, how much and when to eat so you will never gain the fat again. I highly recommend the product to everyone. Perhaps the problem Henry the Health Hound is the claim 30 pounds or slim in six weeks… I guess it depends on where you start. I did not have that result but I was down two sizes in six weeks and believe me – that was very exciting and motivating and I was well on my way to slim in 6. Michael offers an incredible program. It’s a fabuous eating plan and way of life.

  4. This program only works because it is a starvation diet, with not enough food to sustain even a 90 lb woman. (I did my own investigation.) People that have been on it long term suffer from starvation symptoms, losing hair, dry skin, etc. I’d go elsewhere for a program, especially one that has you exercising with rubber bands 30 minutes a week. I lost 40 lbs eating 5 meals a day and exercising an average of 90 minutes/day (includes walking). Any of the decent “bodybuilding” diets out there work, eating every three hours keeps you from being hungry, the exercise builds up muscle and moves metabolism in the right direction. I can now eat what I want and I don’t gain weight back. In the 6 week body makeover, the weight gain after eating a few more carbs is horrendous because you’re starving. STAY AWAY FROM THIS! It shouldn’t even have one bone…….

      I have to disagree- I can tell you have not read the material within the book- So before you start knocking this diet you should really read it- They only tell you so much information on the infomercials.
      However in the book it tells you if you are of a certain height or weight you should either decrease or increase your food intake- Your metabolism will not function the way the diet is intended if you do not eat enough or too much?
      I have tried and been on the diet and it works for me….. And still does, I was over 100 lbs overweight..

  5. I did this a few years back and lost 25 lbs in 6 weeks. It was AWESOME and easy. I decided to go this route rather than other diet and exercise options because the program teaches you how to correctly portion your food and the proper combination of protien, carbs and fat per meal. Also key was the fat burning cardio, which is actually lower in intensity than aerobic cardio. I’m telling you, the 6 week body makeover worked for me and was worth the money I paid for it. And now, 2 children later and needing to lose the weight again, I feel it’s something I can easily repeat.

  6. I did this program a few years ago and all that I can say is that it worked beautifully for me. In 8 weeks I lost 36 pounds and 42 inches total from my body. My digestion was better and most times I couldn’t eat all that I was supposed to eat because I ate 5-6 times a day. In all honesty I only worked out the 18 minutes a day twice a week, I hate to excersise and didn’t even do the cardio exercises that was suggested on the plan. I can’t imagine how much I could have lost if I had done that! The key is the amount of water that you drink daily. I no longer had to take my nexium because all of the heartburn went away, my joints no longer hurt and my energy went through the roof. I kept the weight off for 2 years before I gained the first pound back.

  8. I was on the 6 week body makeover for 8 months and lost 94 pounds. I walked 45 minutes 5 days a week and 18 – 20 minutes with the bands that come with the kit twice a week. Follow the plan it works went from a size 18 to a 4-6. I never lost my hair or felt sick, felt wonderful, heartburn gone, heel spirs gone.

  10. This plan works! I bought the plan about 5 years ago and lost 14 pounds (more than my goal). At that time, I only did the correct eating part (did not work out) and still lost the weight. I am now on the plan again….this time working out and have lost 8 pounds! This plan teaches you to eat the healthly way with fresh fruits, veggies and meat. He explains everything to you…its easy and you never get hungry. I tell all my friend about the plan….I also have lowered my blood pressure by changing to this plan. It’s a Life Style change and you will LOVE the change it will make in you. Also its the only thing I have ever tried that I feel is really healthly!

  11. I lost 75 pounds doing this diet in the first 10 weeks.

    The idea of this is not to work out 15-18 minutes 2 times a week, that’s 15-18 minutes everyday, you just work the same muscle groups no more than twice a week (except for abdominals which can be worked for up to 6 times a week without a problem).

    Between January 11th, 2010 and April 20th, 2010 I lost the 75 pounds.

    I had some more muscle tone from doing the exercises at home, but I repeatedly broke the exercise band that came with it (which resulted in some lashings on my neck and arms, as a result. Those things hurt when they snap back at you), so I got a gym membership.

    Now, my diet has completely changed from what it was a little over a year ago. I lost an additional 15 pounds since then, for a total weight loss of 90 pounds, and I accredit my dieting success with this method, because it really does work and the science works as well.

    I go to the gym everyday for 60-90 minutes (I’m a college student, so I have the time) and I’ve gotten myself in shape. The only issue is that I have alot of excess skin around my thighs and my love-handles (and my buttocks) that I can’t get rid of, even though I’ve gained so much muscle mass since I started going to the gym around May 13th, 2010.

I started his plan 7/1/2010 and today, Wednesday, just weighed in and was down another 5 pounds baby, for a grand total of ,,,,drum roll please,…-88 pounds…this works…it is the magic answer for anyone HOWEVER, you have to dig down deep in the pit of your soul and find that WILLPOWER.–

    he gives you this magical answer to your problem…you just have to do it. the weight melted off me by eating what was right for my body type, i do my exercises faithfully and i dont have saggy skin at all, i look and feel fantastic…i cannot beleive that on 7/1/2010 i weighed 270 pounds and today i weigh 182 pounds, that is amazing…

    anyone wanting to try will change your life…if you do it…i mean you have to do it, you cant just buy the kit and the weight comes off, you have to open the box, abosrb the material and work that program like you never worked anything in your life, follow it and live it, then it just becomes your habit…i prepare my foods correctly, simmered in no salt chicken broth, cook my rice in that no salt chicken broth, whatever i make is prepared so healthy, i never snack or binge eat, those habits are so broken for that way i can enjoy fun things in life, like happy hours,…those are super fun, .

    in fact i am going to meet my girlfriends for a beer to celebrate…i never cheat when it comes to food so that i can enjoy my life like everyone else, my life is just in smaller portions 🙂

    • Thanks for sharing. I really need help. I have tried many things and lost, but at the end, the maintenance plans do not help you keep it off. So many of the people here say they have been able to keep it off… that is really exciting. I am going to do this program.

  13. I used this eating plan 3 years ago, I lost 28lbs in 6 weeks, did very little exercise. I have never felt so full, satisfied, healthy and full of energy. The food was the healthiest I have eaten together, not being a natural with the fruit, veg or water consumption. 3 children under 3 later, I need energy and to feel healthy again. I am about to go back to this eating plan, although it is strict, and yes I do agree it does get a tad boring, not being an adventurous creative cook, is a problem, it really does work.

  14. First let me say that I am so happy that you take the time to get all this info for us. I get frustrated with the “research” thing. I have done this diet…and yes I have lost 43 lbs and kept it off. Is the diet boring? YES it is …Are the exercises enuf to “get you that body in the pic”?…NOOOOO! But it does boost your metabolism and the weight drops off…FAST…but if you don’t exercise more and be diligent you will end up with saggy skin…and then later on, its much harder to get off.   15. Well I have ordered the 6 week body make over and after reading all the post I am very excited about getting started. I just hope I do not get bored with any of the food they tell you to eat. I am addicted to sweets too. I guess those will be out. I want to lose 30lbs and I hope I can do it in 2 months. If I stick with this it sounds very promising! Thanks for all of your insight!

    • I am so happoy with the 6 week body makeover… i am in week 4 and have lost 22.8 lbs… the workouts are 18 minute sculpting theraband worka out… as well as the kit contains 2 dvds that have cardio workouts… there are no hidden gimmicks… this is a great system and i have been on a few…. never ever have i had the success with a diet system that i have had with this… i see myself loosing this weight and more… as with al life changes ,YOU must be 100 percent invested… it works!!!! give it and yourself a try…..thanks,

  16. Hi, I was looking around this site because I have a person I care about who CANNOT stop her cycles of dieting and I want to give her some information.

    And, well… no offense, or go ahead and take offense, but if any “diet” is so great, why do you have to keep “dieting” throughout the years?
    (or every few months…)
    I have just been eating healthy and exercising, work around sick people all the time and I am never sick, people ask me my secret. It’s eating healthy every day and exercising.

    Yes, I still indulge, but it is a treat, not a way of life. I think of food as fuel and if I want to be strong I have to fill my body with good fuel. “Cheat meals” cheat my body.

    If you have to go on it over and over, then it sounds pretty bogus to me. The key should be Can you maintain it? I guess if you want to get skinny for a wedding, great…but come on, aren’t we trying to be healthy? or just skinny? There is a difference.

  17. I have been on this diet for about 3 1/2 months and have lost 45 pounds and I really haven’t been doing all of the exericise. In the past I have been a 1 to 2 pound a week loser. It is an extremely strict diet but easier to stick to than you would think. You know that old saying “eat to live, not live to eat”? I think this diet plan has put me in that frame of mind and will affect my eating habits forever.

  19. I have ordered the program and have been on it for three weeks. Admittedly, I have lost 9 pounds in three weeks….that was disappointing to me. A program rep said it has to be followed to a tee…and that is hard. The meals are boring how much steak and egg whites can one eat??? I was hoping for a bigger weight loss. Also, you must drink 100 oz. of water a day….I guess if you invest the time and use the recipes for variations, it is more palatible. I have two weeks left before being able to send it back for a refund and I am torn on whether to keep on it or not. I thought the results would be better…and faster. I have 30 lbs. to lose…HELP!!!

  21. thanks for the info! it’s quite helpful. i purchased the program and received it nearly a month ago…. i am intimidated by the idea of failing as i have in the past. i am committed to starting this Sunday June 5, 2011. my goal is to lose 60 pounds on the program. i believe this will work for me. i don’t engage in any physical activity and my water intake is minimal so if i follow this as directed, i should be well on my way! wish me success!

  22. I’m undecided about purchasing the program. My metabolism is slow and I feel tired and sleepy after I eat. I love to eat veggies and eat healthy ,but I guess the way I combine my carbs is not helping me loose weight. Should I buy the program or not?

  23. I’m not sure on what you are basing your claims that Michael Thurman’s plan does not work. It might not be for everyone, but it works for my family. I fit your example profile perfectly. I was 30 lbs overweight. We purchased the plan. In 10 weeks, I lost more than 30 lbs. And here’s the kicker, I did NOT exercise the 15-18 minutes 2x per week. Yes, I reduced my calorie intake, but that is what all diets do. On the diet and to this day, I eat between 1800 and 2000 calories a day in 5 small meals 2-3 hours apart. I am never hungry, started having more energy on day 3, and continue to eat this way 2 months after reaching my goal. The plan is simple and effective. In addition to me, my wife has lost almost 60 lbs and my daughter has lost 25+ lbs. Losing the weight has been life-changing.

  24. hi everyone, i need some advice on this program this sounds great but i really dont’t think i can manage this 4 days every month cause what i did for a living is drive a truck. if you are home daily then fine, but in a 6×6 box i don’t think it will work for me. but i do need some help cause i’m about 50lbs over weight, what do you advice for truck drivers cause all we do is set for 11 hrs a day. we can’t workout that easy. thanks

    • I have been on this program for a year now. I saw my boss do it and lose 94 lbs. That is the reason I decided to give it a try. This is not so much of a diet as it is a total change of the way you eat and even think about food. I am down 80 lbs. The plan takes some planning. To the truck driver that commented I can only tell you that a day to plan out your meals and cook them up ahead of time would be needed but it is something that will work. It was hard at first because I was so use to running through the drive-thru or pulling something out of a box and throwing into the microwave. This took some planning but has been well worth it. I have dropped 5 pant sizes. My workout consisted of walking and that was it. I have also found that if I do “cheat” on this plan and gain a few pounds I will lose it by going back on the plan in only a few days. I don’t do it very often as I do not trust myself to not fall back into my old ways so I do it only on a special occasion. Bottom line is that it works.

  26. I lost 34 pounds in the first 6 weeks my husband and son lost 30 pounds as well and we didn’t do any exercise at all I lost a total of 74 pounds and have gained 40 pounds back. I am going back on the plan because it works. sticking to it is a problem for me because I work as a restaurant manager!

  27. I began the 6wbmo 2 days ago. I have been sticking to the plan, have done 2 zumba classes, my upper body workouts and drank my 100 oz of water both days. I weighed this a.m. and I am down 6 lbs. I realize most of that is water weight, but it’s not like I have a ton to lose. I’m only about 25-30 lbs overweight. I found out from my body type that my metabolism is sluggish at best and I also realized that the amount of food I was taking in before I began this plan, was TWICE the amount I’m eating now! On this plan, I’m literally never hungry. I used to eat a full meal and HAVE to have something sweet afterward, but I haven’t even thought about sweets for 2 days now! This could be a God send!
