Is The HCG Diet Really A Hormone that Helps You Lose Fat?

Henry‘s Rating: 1.0 / 5.0

Human chorionic gonadotrophin (HCG) is the “pregnancy” hormone that home pregnancy tests detect in early pregnancy. It rises during the first 14 weeks of pregnancy and then goes back to normal levels.

Its purpose? To provide nutrients to the embryo and fetus via the mother’s fat stores in the ab and hip region. Are you starting to see why it’s been purported as a weight loss aid? Dr. Simeons did, years ago (1950s) when he developed the HCG diet.

Can the HCG Diet help YOU rid your body of excess fat stores? Whether you receive HCG injections or try one of the homeopathic versions, BEWARE!

HCG… Another DANGEROUS Fad Diet? (Yup, you don’t want to miss this…)

Pros

Cons (Expensive! And is it worth it?)

HCG will help your body sustain itself on a 500-calorie a day diet and lose fat. Erm… 500 calories a day? Holy starvation diet!
HCG is perfectly natural (not harmful to pregnant women, right?) and has no side effects. Really? What about a life-threatening condition that can develop from HCG injections?? Keep reading!
HCG is proven to cause weight loss. In a placebo study, both the placebo group and HCG group had similar results and hunger pangs throughout. The FDA does not approve of HCG for weight loss.
Nonprescription homeopathic HCG drops will help you achieve the same results without the side effects. Most homeopathic stuff is relatively safe… AND ineffective. Don’t waste your money!

Is it Worth Your Life??

First of all, 500 calories is not enough to sustain health and regardless of Dr. Simeons claims, you are still at risk of nutritional deficiencies. Secondly, it is not approved as a weight loss aid by any credible study. Quite the contrary my friends… (the placebo study mentioned above).

But MOST IMPORTANTLY:

  1. HCG injections can cause birth defects.
  2. HCG injections can cause a life-threatening condition called “ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome” in women, which can lead to ectopic pregnancy, ruptured fallopian tubes and even death.
  3. HCG injections, like any hormonal therapy (i.e. birth control) can increase your risk of blood clots, stroke and certain types of cancer.
  4. HCG injections are approved of for fertility treatments, so you may increase your chances of becoming pregnant, BUT it may also cause birth defects.

Homeopathic HCG drops you say? There are a myriad of brands out there, but none of them are proven effective. Homeopathic tonics are watered down versions of the real deal and are rarely effective.

“Henry,

Great download! I am a real skeptic – especially with downloads, but I have to say I was pleasantly surprised by your write-up. It makes sense! A friend recommended Sensa and after reading your site, I am (once again) too skeptical to try.”

Thanks again,
Beth

  1. I appreciate your reviews. You mentioned 4 problems with HCG injections. Would you please cite where you found these issues with the HCG injections? Are there studies or reports to back up your statements? My mom is on the HCG protocol right now. I’d like to warn her of any valid cons. She did see a doctor to obtain a prescription for the injections, b.t.w.
    Thanks!

  2. Okay, now i know about the HCG injections. What about the drops you put under your tongue 3 times a day? A friend is doing the drops and it is working for her, but i am still a sceptic. Are the drops as bad as the injections?

  3. While I found your review of this weight loss program unbiased and interesting I did notice a couple things. Some of the main risk concerns you listed apply only to women, such as ovarian hyper stimulation syndrome and birth defects. As a male curious to try the HCG, those two risk don’t really apply to me. Increased chance of blood clots or stroke are worrisome but as somebody who has tried and failed countless diet methods, I have to weigh those risks against the health risks of being overweight. Do you think this program is safer for a male to try? I have heard of men having success on the program.

  4. Hi! I hope both people thinking it’s great read this…First, what part of 500 calories are you NOT getting? If I ate 500 calories I would lose weight, too! I know close to a dozen people who have taken this…started with shots, now drops. ALL OF THEM HAVE PUT THE WEIGHT BACK ON. ALL OF THEM. Several are fatter than before and one has some weird protien issue now because her muscle catabolitized (sorry about the spelling). Of course several dimwits are going back on it for a new cycle of binging and starvation.

Also, a doctor prescribed me something that caused me to have a late term miscarriage in April 2010. Doctors prescribe CRAP every day! Please don’t think “a doctor prescribed me “VIOXX” or “fen-fen” or “Histmanal” made it any safer. My God, skinny is not the same as healthy. Fitness and healthful eating for the rest of your life IS.

  5. Thanks again Henry, I was attempting to try the HCG-diet, but after reading your findings, I think I will stay away from this, and the side effects are not good for someone who has never had a child before. thanks.

    • You’re right–they are not. I just wish others would use common sense and get past the ‘Wow, I can lose a pound a day!’ ideas…yes, eating 500 calories a day will allow you to lose weight, but it messes with your body in some very, very bad ways! Good idea to stay away! Eat healthy and exercise :)

  6. I was talked into trying the HGC diet when 2 ladies at our local gym both told me how much weight they had lost.. both were so excited.. so of course I thought I’d try it. The bottle is a $70.00 investment… or rather a complete waste.
I tried it for ten days (despite my husbands warnings) and found that I was so hungry.. it was ridiculous. t literally made me sick.
I found it even more ridiculous that the local health food/nutrition store (where I bought it and under their nutritionists advice) is pushing this product as a healthy diet alternative. Of course try and return it to get your $$ back. Huh! Not gonna happen.
They’ve scammed you into buying it.. but don’t even stand behind their own products. If a company can’t even stand behind their product and offer a legitimate return… then their product is NOT legitimate!
