Can the “6 Week Body Makeover” Really Make You “Slim in 6?”
by Henry Hound on August 31, 2010
Michael Thurmond’s 6 Week Body Makeover claims you will lose up to 30 pounds and makeover your entire body in 6 weeks…
How will you accomplish this? Well, first you take a metabolism quiz, find out your body type, and then follow a meal plan designed for your body type. Also included are various support materials…
|
The Claim |
The Problem |
| By eating right for your type and only working out 15-18 minutes 2 times a week, you will lose up to 30 pounds in 6 weeks…Somehow it is eating “wrong” for your type that is the source of all of your weight loss problems. | The research in support of losing weight based on eating for your, “food type” is less than solid.Even more important, the idea that you can only workout two times a week for only 15-18 minutes and lose this amount of weight simply defies all logic. |
The 6 Week Body Makeover Eating Plan…
The fact that you have an eating plan and recipes is great. However, although there are schools of thought that say different body types metabolize food differently, it is most likely the reason for anyone’s success on the program is based the fact that his plans for all types involve eating less calories than your taking in.
On a positive note, lots of diet plans do not come with recipes, so this is a nice detail. And eating right for your type might make you feel better and allow you to stick to a plan a little easier.
The Real Problem: The Workout Claims…
-He claims that because the workouts are “targeted” that just 15-18 minutes, twice a week, is all it takes to begin to reshape all your problems areas.
By doing only those body sculpting exercises that are right for you, you can stop killing yourself in the gym, start working out less, and get the results that you desire.
Grrr. I smell a cat…er, a rat.
I am sorry to be the one to tell you this, but if you are thirty pounds overweight and you want to get in shape, working out for 15 minutes twice a week will not get you to where you want to go. Not in 6 weeks. Not in 16.
So What Can You Do to Lose Weight Fast?
You must workout thirty minutes per day, minimum, and you must add cardio to your daily ‘diet’ of exercise. Weight training is both great and necessary, but it will not do it all. If you are overweight, you must get moving-any cardiovascular exercise will do the trick, at first. I suggest you save your money and invest in a good pair of running shoes and some hand weights. But either way, eating healthy and working out are the only ways to get that better body in 6 weeks.
There is a great alternative to “The 6 Week Body Makeover” that my pack loves. Unlike Thurmand’s program it does not exaggerate the benefits. It’s a 100% free report I’ve put together that teaches you several proven methods to lose weight. In the Health Hound’s opinion, I would say that it’s a no-brainer not to at least give this free report a try.

“Henry,
Great download! I am a real skeptic – especially with downloads, but I have to say I was pleasantly surprised by your write-up. It makes sense! A friend recommended Sensa and after reading your site, I am (once again) too skeptical to try.”
Thanks again,

November 18, 2012 AT 3:11 pmI was 221 pounds and in 6 weeks I got down to 194lbs. I can't believe that people are on here saying that they didn't lose weight. It is not easy but it gives great results. I even changed things up sometimes ant still lost weight. Not sure what the other people are doing but this lifestyle change works and gives incredible results. Lots of prep work involved with the food but your reasons to stay with it have to be stronger then your reasons for wanting to quit. Stay strong and I will work. All about will power.

July 30, 2012 AT 5:43 amI ordered this back in college (10 years ago) and was then only 15 lbs away from my scale military weight. 10 years later I have a 21 month old and am trying to get back on the bandwagon. I started off exactly 100 pounds over and am now about 85 lbs away from my goal (not scale) by pulling out my old Thurmond Kit. The principles remain the same, and so far I have I have lost weight, don't feel deprived and in fact, am looking forward to staying on this until my goal is reached. I do try to walk anywhere from 4-6 days a week and I cover at least 4 miles (route I mapped out by my house - 1 time around is 2 miles). Everyone keeps talking about how they plan to out their meals (true), but there are the "gourmet" type meals and then the simpler ones. For convenience I usually eat boiled egg whites as my protein, make sure I keep fruit cups (in their own juice), bananas (for carb), and frozen veggies I can throw in the microwave handy. Those are the only items I need (on my plan for my body type) if I really want a quick, no fuss, easy on the go day. Those items take me from breakfast to dinner. Often though, I may precook a meal and have something different for lunch/dinner. It can be a bit motonous but I can change it on the weekends when I have time. The point is, the program is as easy as you need it to be. Consistency, however is key. The more you follow the guidelines, the quicker the weight loss. I never thought I ate a lot of salt but my left foot and ankle has a tendency to swell. On this program, my foot goes back to looking as flat and regular as my right. I just feel good overall. And I get on the scale about once or twice a week because seeing the numbers move down encourages me to continue.

May 30, 2012 AT 7:52 amSeveral years ago I tried Michael Thurmans Six Week Body Makeover, and it really does work! Along with the body sculpting, you do need to do power walking every day. He claims even if you do nothing but follow the diet, you will lose weight. To eat healthy is expensive, and takes time. It's easier if you do this with a coworker or buddy for support. What I liked was you can make it as easy as you want (food choice wise), you don't 'count calories' or 'points' or weigh your food. There were times when I didn't want to eat all the food. Eating six times a day is not very convenient, but it did work. I really missed the fresh fruit limitations, especially during the summer months. I believe I lost 25lbs in six weeks. It's not the weight, but the lost inches that impressed me most.

May 20, 2012 AT 3:51 pmIt worked for me I lost 33 pounds in 6 weeks, which I have kept off for a year. It is just basic nutrition that we refuse to use in our daily lives. Little salt, oil, sugar...drink plenty of water and exersize. Chicken not steak, fruits and veggies. Just plain old nutrition in a big fancy box with a big price tag that encourages you to stay on track lest you just blew $220!

April 3, 2012 AT 11:55 amThe 6wbm does work. I'm never hungry. In fact. I have trouble eating all the food and I'm a big guy. 6'1 and and played sports all my life. I have done the 6wbm before. I went from 267 to 205 in about 12 weeks. walking for cardio does wonders to accelerate your weight loss. I have also done the insanity workouts for the 9 weeks of that program. That works to, but it was hard on my knees. Definitely the 6wbm works. This is my second time on it.

April 2, 2012 AT 8:59 amI lost 27 lbs. in 6-weeks with only cutting the lawn twice (it may have needed it more) and no other exercise. I have a sedentary office job. I wasn't hungry. In fact, I ate well. The idea is to get your metabolism in high gear and keep it going. That way you want/need to eat, but you're eating right. It's a lifestyle change. *I modified the program slightly so that I would keep on it. I may not have lost as fast as I could, but keeping on the program meant that "in the long run" I did lose the weight. The goal was to keep your metabolism going. Too strenuous exercise could shut down your metab, just as too much salt, to much sugar, etc.

March 27, 2012 AT 4:29 pmIT WORKS!!! Very difficult and you have to really work at it, preparing meals etc but I felt great and lost 30lbs in 6 weeks. I went on to lose 50lbs total and then fell off the wagon! Gained it all back after an accident and am now trying to get started on it again. It is a great weight loss program with lots of support. Reviewing it now it is basically cut out all preservatives and salt. Home cook all your food and limit your portions. Really makes sense? I use their recipes and can cook great meals and the family dont know anything is missing! I felt so much better also. It is a hard one to get into let me warn you but so worth the time.

March 23, 2012 AT 12:28 pmI did the 6WBMO for less than a week, when I started throwing up blood. My doctor said that it was due to the diet that this happened. I did lose 10lbs in 4 days. I was happy about that until my doctor told me that was unhealthy also.
ReplyMargie says:
March 13, 2012 AT 1:33 pmI bought the 6WBMO several years ago and lost weight with it. It really does work if you follow it completely...their exact motto is POP (perfectly on plan). Which is very difficult in everyday life. Lots of pre-planning so you don't miss a meal and fall off the plan. Even condiments...lots of sodium and sugar in those and there are recipes to make your own. Very hard to eat out...they have a book you get for this but it's very hard to resist certain things when you are out to eat! I can tell you it has taught me how to eat right, watch my portions and enjoy the taste of food without adding alot of salt and sugar to them. The specific workout they mention in this review is great, but the plan also encourages cardio in addition to the workouts, so you are "working out" more than just twice a week. I think their point is you don't have to go to the gym and work out parts of your body that don't need working on. Whenever I follow the paln....I lose weight. I felt like my investment into the plan was worth it and they also have a great website with more recipes and forums for questions, support and guidance.

February 26, 2012 AT 9:47 amI want to add that the SWBM DOES WORK! I purchased the product in 2009. I will always see the informercial at night for months, and I then decided to buy the product. I was amazed that it allows you to found out your particular body type then, eat the food designed for your body type. Also, you are required, only if you want to see results, to workout at least 4x weekly and also do the body sculpting routines in your package. Michael Thurmonds never said to only workout 15-18 minutes and 2x a week. You must do cardio exercises and the body sculpting routine together. Believe me, when you get use to not adding additional salt and oils with your food, you will truly see a difference in your body. I know this plan works, I tried it, and you must be sincere to follow the plan exactly-only if you want to see results! In last-THIS PLAN DOES WORK, IF YOU WORK IT. LARITA, CHICAGO

June 22, 2012 AT 9:33 amWhy in the world did you pay that much money for it? I paid $120 + tax and that is with it being 5 payments of $19.95. It does actually work. You have to be disciplined to use it as with any weight loss program. It will not work for lazy people. I started it and had to get used to preparing all of my meals. Once I got into the groove of that, I lost 14lbs the first week and was surprised because I had tried everything. Of course I did not exercise that first week because I wanted to get the feel for it first. However once I started exercising in unison with eating the meals correctly I lost so many inches along with weight. Try it again and put some work into it. You will be pleased at what you accomplish.
ReplyBeliever says:
February 15, 2012 AT 1:07 pm6WBM actually works, but it is very restrictive and it isn't for everyone. It also requires aerobic/cardio of 45-60 minutes 5 days a week, for optimum results. So really, to get the full benefit, you do have to exercise a good amount.

February 10, 2012 AT 12:30 pmGot to say that the 6 week program worked for me. I was 90 pounds over the limit when I ordered it. I really liked the idea that you ate real food, got rid of the salt and oils and used herbs and worked out. The education of how your body works in regards to the fuel you put in it really helped me understand easily what to eat. I am now 90 pounds lighter and feel great, it really started a new life for me. 3 years later still eating on the plan and being active has kept it off.

January 22, 2012 AT 1:46 pmI have used this program and it definitely works I tried it originally about 9years ago and reached my goal. I used to exercise. About 60 minutes for lseveral months and was able to loose 15 lbs in over six months. But then I stopped loosing without any diet. Once I started this diet with in six weeks I lost the remaining 22 pounds. I could not have reached my goal without this diet. it also makes sense from medical stand point as well. My wife used the same program and was able to loose about 40 pounds. It is a difficult diet to stick toeventhough I have maintained my weight in reasonable limit. This year I gained some weight so we purchased the program again and this will work. It is definitely worth doing and if one can stick to the plan it will work.

January 14, 2012 AT 5:49 pmWell, I see more pro's than con's! I just received the 6wbm and am very excited to start it tomorrow. They did promise me to upgrade the delivery to express delivery which still took 11 days but, I am not doubting it is still a good program. I do think it is logical that everyone metabolizes food differently so no "ONE DIET" will work for everyone the same way. It makes total sense to me that each body type needs a different type of eating regimine. I began preparing my foods today to last for a few days to get a jump start for the week. I consider tomorrow to be the 1st day of the "new me" and I can't wait to re-post my progress in 6 weeks. Wish me luck but prayers are more appreciated!

January 9, 2012 AT 3:29 pm6 Week Body Makeover does work. It's a great guide to help you lose weight if you have a hard time knowing what to do. Doing this diet I lost over 100 lbs in 6 months and I didn't even follow it exact. There were many days I lost 2 lbs. My body was so use to getting thousands of calories a day and when I ate the food suggested it cut the calories down tremendously while filling me up. If you extremely overweight and needs something to organize you weight loss, then the 6 Week Body Makeover will be for you. It worked for me, my brother in-law and my mother in-law.
ReplyLaSharron says:
January 8, 2012 AT 5:25 pmI was on the program to the letter for 2 weeks. Nothing. I cooked the way I wanted (like adding the oil and salt. No oil? Really? Saltless fish or rice? Who does that?) and lose 20 pounds in 4 weeks. So the depriving yourself of salt and oil isn't the case. Think about it, way back in the day back in Bible times, they ate salt and oil all the time, and most of them weren't overweight. So it just goes back to portion control, portion control, portion control, eating small meals often, doing cardio often, and weight/resistance training, which you don't need to pay $100 to realize.

December 29, 2011 AT 8:39 amThis is a scam. They charged me for items I didn't want. Called customer service within 1 minute of placing the order because items were included that I didn't want and the address was incorrect. The gentleman said he could help. I asked to be transferred to a supervisor, he refused and hung up. I called back and talked to a different customer service representative. I was informed that she couldn't help me, because they didn't see the order number for 24 hours. The same reason the first customer service representative gave me. However, the second customer service individual, Mikea, assured me that they could address the problem if I called back after 7:00 am PST the next day. I pleaded to talk to have my call transferred to a supervisor and she refused also. I called at 7:04 the next day and the customer service individual said he couldn't help me. I wouldn't have mind paying the $120.00 for the program, but I was charged $300.00. Do not order this product online! It is a scam and the customer service will not help you if there is a problem.

December 10, 2011 AT 7:51 amI lost 71 pounds in 12 weeks 2 days. How did I do it? Simple. I stopped drinking soda (coke) and drank H2O (water). Is that all I did? YES!! I traded drink for drink. I used to grab a 16 oz bottle of coke as soon as I got up in the morning. Switched: I drank 16 oz of water instead. I'd have another 2-3 bottles of coke or pepsi before leaving the house. I'd stop at the store and grab another 20 oz bottle of soda before going to eat breakfast. (switched to 20 oz bottle of water) at the restaurant, I'd order a glass of soda, order my food, drink the soda get another to drink with my food. (again drank water instead of coke) Get a go cup of soda (water). go to work, drink 1-2 more bottles of soda before lunch. (water). Go to lunch, where I would order a foot long sub, chips/cookies medium coke/pepsi (22oz) drink 2-3 cups of said soda, eat sub and cookies or chips leave with another medium cup of soda. (after the first couple days of drinking the water, I could only eat a 6 inch sub, no chips or cookies.) by the end of 1 week, I was ordering a 3 inch sub and 2-3 medium cups of water. See where I'm going with this? (A greasy hamburger and fries do not taste good with water. you NEED soda to get rid of that greasy taste.) I'd drink another 2-3 bottles of soda that I switched to WATER. It only took a few days of this switch to get it down to a science. No matter what, I drank as much water as I had been drinking of the soda. Go to an "all you can eat buffet"? I drank anywhere from 2-5 glasses of soda with my 2-3 plates full of food. When I switched to H2O, I found all I wanted was 1 plate of my favorite food. When someone would ask me if that was all I was going to get, I'd say no, but this is what I want right now. I'd just never felt like going back for that next plate of food. I realized I had been drinking as much as 3 gallons of soda a day. that with all the food I ate, maintained my weight. Remember, I switched glass for glass, soda to water I was now drinking 2-3 gallons of water daily. (I didn't notice that I had lost weight till my son told me an outfit I had worn 1 week before looked "stupid" on me. I went and looked in the mirror and sure enough, you could have put 2 of me in the outfit.) I Had a size 24 jacket that had fit me. I put it on and it just hung on me. I jokingly told my 17 year old gymnastic son to get in the jacket with me, he did and we could zip it up!! Talk about AMAZING!! I went to a local dress shop (Cato's) and tried on a beautiful white crushed crepe dress, I bought that and a pair of red high heels.I was a knockout!! I had gone from a size 24/26 to a 16 in just 93 days. From a 44DD bra to a 36DD. I felt great and got so many compliments. I didn't switch from soda to water to loose weight, but that was a wonderful bonus that God gave me. I switched because my doctor told me she considered me just as much a diabetic as if I was an insulin dependent diabetic. 4 months after loosing the weight, I went to my oldest grandson's first birthday party at McDonalds in Orlando FL. My daughter in law had only known me as over 220 lbs. She didn't recognize me at first, ( I kept getting in her way when she tried to go around me) All of a sudden, she looked me in the face, she was speechless for about 10 seconds than she started screaming. Everyone in the place just looked to see what was going on and my family came running and hugging me. I had been over 220 pounds for about 15 years. I'm telling you this hoping it will give me the incentive to go back to drinking water. I no longer drink soda, but sweet tea. I am 61 years old and currently 304 pounds. My name is Darlene DeVore. I have 4 wonderful sons and 12 beautiful grandchildren. I want to be around to have great grandchildren and see them grown. I know that if I don't loose at least 180 pounds, I don't believe I'll be there for them. My weight when I lost the 71 pounds, was 258 pounds. Now I have to lose almost 60% of my body weight. I haven't weighed 121 pounds since I was about 16 years old. I'm only 5'3". Oh, by the way, when one drinks lots of water it will literally wash the fat out of their body. Granted, I was 46 when I lost the weight I kept it off for 5 years. I went back on soda and the weight came back with a vengeance. It took 12 weeks to take off 71 pounds and 12 years to put on that 71 and another 56 pounds. I'm not looking to take it off overnight, but I'm believing for 5 pounds a week average, that means about 36 weeks.

March 21, 2012 AT 1:26 amDarlene - I applaud the fact that you were able to stop your soda addiction and to lose so much weight, but I was shocked to read about how much soda you used to drink. I thought I was bad, but I only drink three cans a day, at the most. It is no surprise that you were able to lose so much weight in such a short amount of time, because you had a drastic drop in calories. So, you don't lose the "taste" for soda, after switching to water? I hope you were able to find the motivation needed to return to substituting water for soda. Good luck!

November 29, 2011 AT 7:16 pmI recently ordered the SWBM and must admit I'm both excited and nervous. I've been pouring through the reviews and have mixed emotions. I love fruit and don't need salt in my diet anyway. I'm willing to make sacrafices in the pusuit of looking and feeling better. I've been there and done that when it comes to diets. However, I'm ready to commit and follow through with this program. will update at a later time.

November 29, 2011 AT 5:16 am37 and i've been on many 'diets'...some worked, some didn't....the last thing i did was follow docs orders and dropped 60lbs in 9 months...yes, it came off slow but in my opinion, safely. i did gain a good chunk of it back and am now working my way back down doing the same thing i did the first time...EAT LIKE I GOT SOME SENSE! i didn't starve myself and the first time i didn't exercise at all. and i don't believe in plateaus either. the reason why we stop losing is b/c calorie intake not only depends on how many you're burning if you exercise but by how much you weigh and the less you weigh the less you need. drop 20lbs and you'll need to take in less than you did when you were 20lbs heavier. i have a problem with this 6 week makeover thing as with any advertised weightloss program. if it's that beneficial it shouldn't cost much money if any at all b/c to me the ultimate goal is to be at a safe/healthier weight and should be eating healthy food anyway. weightloss is always great but are any of these people eating horrible foods loaded with sodium/sugar/etc?? that was one of my problem with the frozen food that came in the mail...sodium! anyway, the other thing is if it worked that well, then a whole lot more people would be using it. this program isn't new yet i don't know a single person that's used it or a person that even knows another person that's done it. my other problem is since it gives you meal plans/recipes, how does that work for vegans? JC (or was it WW) had a vegetarian plan but the bulk of it was salad and mac and cheese...i may be vegan but i certainly don't eat a bunch of 'rabbit food'. just my $.02.

November 28, 2011 AT 2:47 pmI just want to say you don't have all the facts. The program doesn't say you can only exercise twice per week...is says with as little as twice per week you can see results. This is by far the best program I have been on. I don't see this is a diet I see this as a lifetime eating plan. I have never felt so good. Lots of energy, skin is clearer, digestive system much better and yes weight loss to boot. I lost 24 pounds in first 6 weeks without being deprived. Although, I did discover I plateau every 2-3 weeks so I just incorporate something 'off plan" like bread or cheese into one meal and that seems to get me going again without gaining any weight. The plan is logical and all the health experts have beening saying this for years... eat natural foods...cut out sugar, salt, excess oil, dairy and wheat. I thought I'd miss these things, but for the first time I don't. Yes, I do exercise 4-5 times week for about 30 minutes, and I know this has a lot do with the change the as well, but seeing scale move and feeling better is best results I could ask for. So I say, my hats off to Michael Thurmond for getting me to think about what I put in my mouth and helping me to make healthier choices. It was worth every penny!

November 17, 2011 AT 7:30 pmI bought the 6WBM program quite a few years ago, went on it and lost 40 lbs. I just start back on program 4 weeks and 2 days ago, and am happy to say I saw my 18th pound lost this afternoon. It does work. It's not always easy, but nothing worth doing is ever easy. I am into a good groove and have found foods I have actually started craving. I did Atkins and had a lot of success with that as well, but I know the way I fall off plan for a day here and there it is not safe to do that because it takes 3 days to get back into the right body processes. I haven't done any exercise yet, I don't drink all 100% of water, but I do drink a lot of diet iced tea. The hardest part for me is removing salt from my diet, and adding fruit to my diet. I eat a ton of egg whites because I also have problems eating protein 5 times a day and egg whites are easier for me to deal with. I recommend it wholeheartedly. Eating healthier than most people do who turn to a "diet program" can never be a bad thing in my eyes. And for the dairy part, just remember it's only while you are reducing the weight. It can gradually be added later when you get to a maintenance phase. : )

November 25, 2011 AT 6:58 pm@Wendi.....congrats on such a great accomplishment! I've seen the infomercials & would skip by them..I've done Weight Watchers last year & lost 20lbs over 5mths. Slow but steady. I quit due to the meetings were depressing and I lost interest in tracking/counting everything. In the back of my mind I know I need 2 get going again, but the other day a coworker shared he lost 100lbs in 6mth doing this program. That made me perk up & google this plan & pay more attention that it could work. Can you give more insight or a little more specifics before I commit? Is it similar to WW or do u portion control & not restrict things from your diet? I see the comments about dairy & another girlfriend advised to pull back from the dairy & I would see a major difference. Thanks

November 17, 2011 AT 5:55 amHi, I was 1/2 awake this morning and heard the informercial on TV. I like what I heard so I decided to find some reviews and this site has been very helpful. My problem is I'm a Black woman who is unable to exercise rigoursly because of my hair texture. As you may or may not know, black women can not wash their hair daily and when it sweats it is a wreck! So a lot of us do not exercise and therefore are unhealthy due to our hair, unfortunately. So hearing I can walk for 30 min a few times a week, resistance train for 2 days a week, and modify my eating was/is music to my ears. I am an active individual who does not have an issue with exercise. At this current stage I need effective exercises and it sounds like I can get that with this program. I am willing to give it a shot. If there are others out there like me, let me know how you have done on the program.

March 23, 2012 AT 10:19 amTM from Jersey, just wanted you to know that I lost 20 lbs in less than 2 months with NO exercise on Michael Thurmonds 6 week Body Makeover. And I was barely trying. I had never been on a diet before . I really don't consider it a diet but a lifestyle change. And that is what it ultimately takes to lose weight. All I did was eat right according to his plan for my body type and IT WORKED ! I DON'T CARE WHAT ANYONE SAYS ! And you won't know til you try it .Those that say it did not work probably did not go by the meal plan at all. It all makes logical sense. You eat more times a day but smaller portions without all the sugar and salt. After a few days without sugar and salt you begin to taste it naturally in the healthy foods that you eat. I say go for it ! And blessings to you !

November 14, 2011 AT 11:21 amObviously, I have my doubts here. I do have to admit, I kinda agree with Hound a bit. If the 6WBM program is limiting your calorie count and doing some light exercise, I can see why some folks are seeing results of the product. I am not trying to knock the program, but it does sound like the facts of a drastic lowered calorie count and based on responses, maybe a metabolism jump seems to be the point of the program.

October 20, 2011 AT 10:04 amI did SWBM about 6 or 7 years ago, it was the catalyst to my weight loss, after 6 weeks in which I lost about 15 lbs, I took up running and lost about another 10. I was cranky as all get out on the diet, BUT it worked. I am about 7 years out from when I started it, I have had a pregnancy in there (baby number 3) and I still run. It reset my life style, I am thinking of doing it again to loose the 10 lbs. of baby weight I have, but I am still about 15lbs less than before I did the program in the first place. I am a believer.

October 19, 2011 AT 1:08 pmjust spoke with Customer service from 6WBM and wanted to see people's rating, what others say about this weight lost program. I've seen TV commercial, magazine commercial and all kind of money making "marathons" for this particular program. I did Atkins diet few years ago and it really works. But that's very individual, just like any other diet. Anyway, I have to have non sugar coffee with cream and I have to have natural calcium sources food almost every day. I can't live without fruit also. Other things I don't really care. The only concern I have is that do I have to give up my favorite products I just mentioned above? I didn't ask about this to sales person when I called. I'm sure she would say "No". So I rather to read recommendations and responses from the people who actually used this program.

October 19, 2011 AT 6:28 amDear Henry, I just wanted to say that you shouldn't knock something before you try it yourself. I am 3 weeks into my 6 week body makeover and I have lost 18lbs and my body has done an amazing transformation! SO IT DOES WORK! I have walked 3 times a week along with the two 18minutes sculpting exercise's to get these results and the walking was because I did that before starting the diet. I'm sure that your plan has had some success but proper etiquette in promoting is not to smash someone else! I only have 10 lbs to go and I will be another one of his success stories! I know that most diets work, but it is what fits for each person that helps people lose weight! Take Care, Tonya

I started working out hard & long & did weight watchers, but the scale doesn't / didn't move in my favor. It's been a year since WW and I've gained 10 of the 20lbs back..I did Insanity recently & started to tone up but, I want soooo bad for the scale to mOve below 200. Can you please share a little more to help me decide to order the program. Also, I have a coworker who confided he lost 100 lbs in 6mths doing the makeover. Thanks.

October 16, 2011 AT 6:48 amI tried the 6WBM program years ago, I was desperate to lose weight. I too had great success with this program! I ate according to my body type (in my case "E"), drank 100 oz. of water a day and WALKED on a treadmill for 45 minutes, 3 times a week. I lost 3 lbs solid EVERY week for 6 weeks! I lost a total of 18 lbs in 6 weeks, I'm not kidding! The only thing that was hard for me was eating protein at every meal/snack, I'm not a big fan of meat all the time. And also, I was a little concerned about completely cutting out dairy (because of calcium deficiency, etc) I've always heard cutting out whole food groups isn't really a good thing to do, so is this healthy? But overall, I was very satisfied with the program and results, but remember, you DO have to continue this healthy lifestyle to MAINTAIN it!

October 6, 2011 AT 1:55 amI am usually up during the night because I work at night and tonight I just happened to be flipping through the channels and I saw this infommercial for the 6 week body makeover and was a little more than intrigued. I watched for about 10 minutes and then went to the computer and purchased it, with no add-ons (which in the commercial they make it look like it comes with all of that), and as soon as I clicked the submit button, I felt hugely apprehensive! I am somewhat relieved to see so many reviews but there are many differing opinions about this product. I am not quite sure who to believe but I am locked in at this point, so when my box comes I will give it all I got for at least 6 weeks and we'll see how it goes. :-/ I will try and post again when I have tried it and get my results, whatever those might be!

November 19, 2011 AT 10:14 ama friend purchased this program for me 6 years ago. i lost 6 # the very first week with NO exercise. only because the doctor said lose a little weight loss first, BEFORE engaging in exercise, then the exercise wont be so hard or taxing. after 12 weeks i lost 30 # and never did get the exercises in mostly because i was working full time & busy taking care of a 10 months old. now, 6 years later, my company has implemented a 8-wk biggest loser competition. 32 of us have signed up. we aren't allowed to discuss our # or % losses. so far, only 3 weeks into the program, i've dropped 15.5 #. no hunger. no weakness. i'm not trying to re-do my body in 6 weeks..just drop the weight. and i eat 5-6 times a day minus all salt, plus chug the water. i've had to modify my beverage from coffee w/ cream to black and now i dont miss the creamer. its really remarkable how easy it is to lose the unwanted pounds when you delete the white foods (potatoes, grits, flour, sugar) etc. make no mistake i love chocolate like no one else. and one day on the weekend i can choose which no-can-have-during-the-week item and indulge. for me, its one glass of wine or one piece of chocolate. this does not deter my weight loss. and knowing i can have that one special something come saturday or sunday, allows me to stay on the plan. nothing else has worked..weight watchers, slim fast, dexatrim, jenny craig, etc. yes. i've tried them all. only THIS plan has worked. and you can go online and select scores of cool recipes that meet your tastes. instead of butter or margarine, use the I CAN'T BELIEVE ITS NOT BUTTER SPRAY. great taste and zero calories! i can even go to Longhorn Steak House and order a salad with dressing on the side (just dip your forrk in the dressing for a touch of taste), 7 oz filet mignon & a sweet tater without the sugar. still on plan. that extra 4 oz of protein isn't going to sway your results. i'll stay on this plan this time (even after the competition is over) until i've dropped to the desired weight. its practically effortless. the only "work" is meal preparation. not a real biggy. you've gotta cook anyway, just cool a little more for the next day's meals. pretty simple. i highly highly highly recommend to anyone apprehensive about utilizing this program to just give it a shot. your first week's results alone, should give you all the incentive you could need to stick with it!!

I feel off the diet and only gained about 10lbs back; 10lbs dont sound back when you seen how badly Ive been eating while off of it. Im starting back on Monday Oct 17th, Im currently re-reading the materials and getting all the work out stuff unpack (just moved). I wish you the best luck!! I think you will be surprised how it actually works, I personally felt better after the first day, Maybe it was because my blood sugar was normal and I had massively lessen my salt intake, whatever it was I felt great the first night.

Then as the months passes by be sure to continually check your bank statement! This company steels and scans money from you! They charged me for different charges totally over 180 that were not for the program! They will not give the money back that they took out of your account so BEWARE! Now I never complain about anything and this is the first time I have been so enraged at a company that I wanted to let other people know. This is a very unprofessional company and scam artists. September 17, 2011 AT 10:51 amMichael Thurman's weight loss program does work if you can keep it up. I work full time in sales and have 4 kids who are active in sports etc. It's hard for me to eat so many times a day and to plan/pack for all of the meals. I have a hard time finding the time to shop, prepare, cook, store etc. I was referred to his program by a personal trainer who said it's the best around. It definitely works, but you have to be very organized and like to do things way ahead of time.

September 13, 2011 AT 4:13 amMy wife and I purchased the Michael Thurmond Six Week Makeover and was overwhelmed, so we ditched the thought. A year later, we got the guts up and tried it. IT WAS AMAZING! I lost around 40 pounds, 5 pants sizes. My wife lost 29 pounds and 8 sizes. We maintained the lifestyle and basically do 4 weeks a year to revitalize the metabolism. We followed the plan exactly with no slips and we answered the testing questions honestly. In this program, what you put in, you will get out. Only drink water, no salts, all natural foods and even organics. This plan makes us understand that the chemicals and fillers placed in the food are the real issues. Plus, the amount of salt in our foods are beyond dangerous levels. Instead of arguing the diet, shouldn't we be rising up against the FDA and our food manufacturers?

September 4, 2011 AT 8:08 pmI did this program in the early stages (i.e. before T.V.). I met with Michael and he introduced me to a wonder personal trainer. My problem is I hate to eat; this program forced me to eat and I had a workout "partner". I love to work out, but no matter how much or how often I workout, if I don't eat I gain weight. This program, at the time, was the best! I was back to better than competition shape (I am a former gymnast). Now, I find it difficult to follow because I don't have someone to "answer to". I do the workout, but I am back to the non-eating thing. If you're on it, keep it up; if you're considering it, DO IT you won't be sorry.

September 2, 2011 AT 10:49 amI love this program!! Because it is customizable and teaches us how to eat as we are supposed to .... your body needs food to function and not only 3 meals per day .. they are balanced and are foods that work together .. if you have any basic nutrition knowledge and how your body digested protein, carbs and fats .. you realize how "obvious" it is.. that this is how it should be.... common sense eating!!! While Michael's way boosts metabolism and keeps it boosted .. No, you don't HAVE to work out, but it can only make things easier at the end of the day. As your body realizes that it is being fed constantly it will let go of all the unwanted, "unnecessary" fat reserves. Please don't bash a program on the assumption that you know all!! Or better yet because you are trying to market your own. This is the ABSOLUTE best program I have ever done and been successful with!! And you really can't call it a diet ... it is not!!

I weighed this a.m. and I am down 6 lbs. I realize most of that is water weight, but it's not like I have a ton to lose. I'm only about 25-30 lbs overweight. I found out from my body type that my metabolism is sluggish at best and I also realized that the amount of food I was taking in before I began this plan, was TWICE the amount I'm eating now! On this plan, I'm literally never hungry. I used to eat a full meal and HAVE to have something sweet afterward, but I haven't even thought about sweets for 2 days now! This could be a God send! August 14, 2011 AT 5:53 amI have been on this program for a year now. I saw my boss do it and lose 94 lbs. That is the reason I decided to give it a try. This is not so much of a diet as it is a total change of the way you eat and even think about food. I am down 80 lbs. The plan takes some planning. To the truck driver that commented I can only tell you that a day to plan out your meals and cook them up ahead of time would be needed but it is something that will work. It was hard at first because I was so use to running through the drive-thru or pulling something out of a box and throwing into the microwave. This took some planning but has been well worth it. I have dropped 5 pant sizes. My workout consisted of walking and that was it. I have also found that if I do "cheat" on this plan and gain a few pounds I will lose it by going back on the plan in only a few days. I don't do it very often as I do not trust myself to not fall back into my old ways so I do it only on a special occasion. Bottom line is that it works.

July 15, 2011 AT 5:43 amI'm not sure on what you are basing your claims that Michael Thurman's plan does not work. It might not be for everyone, but it works for my family. I fit your example profile perfectly. I was 30 lbs overweight. We purchased the plan. In 10 weeks, I lost more than 30 lbs. And here's the kicker, I did NOT exercise the 15-18 minutes 2x per week. Yes, I reduced my calorie intake, but that is what all diets do. On the diet and to this day, I eat between 1800 and 2000 calories a day in 5 small meals 2-3 hours apart. I am never hungry, started having more energy on day 3, and continue to eat this way 2 months after reaching my goal. The plan is simple and effective. In addition to me, my wife has lost almost 60 lbs and my daughter has lost 25+ lbs. Losing the weight has been life-changing.

February 10, 2011 AT 10:20 pmHi, I was looking around this site because I have a person I care about who CANNOT stop her cycles of dieting and I want to give her some information. And, well... no offense, or go ahead and take offense, but if any "diet" is so great, why do you have to keep "dieting" throughout the years? (or every few months...) I have just been eating healthy and exercising, work around sick people all the time and I am never sick, people ask me my secret. It's eating healthy every day and exercising. Yes, I still indulge, but it is a treat, not a way of life. I think of food as fuel and if I want to be strong I have to fill my body with good fuel. "Cheat meals" cheat my body. If you have to go on it over and over, then it sounds pretty bogus to me. The key should be Can you maintain it? I guess if you want to get skinny for a wedding, great...but come on, aren't we trying to be healthy? or just skinny? There is a difference. Thank you, you ol' hound...I wish people really thought about what you are writing. Or maybe what they are writing...If you have to write the words, "I'd do that diet AGAIN" then you are doing something wrong. I wish you well and a life of health and happiness and less struggle! I mean it!

July 26, 2011 AT 10:59 pmThanks for sharing. I really need help. I have tried many things and lost, but at the end, the maintenance plans do not help you keep it off. So many of the people here say they have been able to keep it off... that is really exciting. I am going to do this program.

January 31, 2011 AT 8:56 pmI lost 75 pounds doing this diet in the first 10 weeks. The idea of this is not to work out 15-18 minutes 2 times a week, that's 15-18 minutes everyday, you just work the same muscle groups no more than twice a week (except for abdominals which can be worked for up to 6 times a week without a problem). Between January 11th, 2010 and April 20th, 2010 I lost the 75 pounds. I had some more muscle tone from doing the exercises at home, but I repeatedly broke the exercise band that came with it (which resulted in some lashings on my neck and arms, as a result. Those things hurt when they snap back at you), so I got a gym membership. Now, my diet has completely changed from what it was a little over a year ago. I lost an additional 15 pounds since then, for a total weight loss of 90 pounds, and I accredit my dieting success with this method, because it really does work and the science works as well. I go to the gym everyday for 60-90 minutes (I'm a college student, so I have the time) and I've gotten myself in shape. The only issue is that I have alot of excess skin around my thighs and my love-handles (and my buttocks) that I can't get rid of, even though I've gained so much muscle mass since I started going to the gym around May 13th, 2010.

January 31, 2011 AT 6:26 amThis plan works! I bought the plan about 5 years ago and lost 14 pounds (more than my goal). At that time, I only did the correct eating part (did not work out) and still lost the weight. I am now on the plan again....this time working out and have lost 8 pounds! This plan teaches you to eat the healthly way with fresh fruits, veggies and meat. He explains everything to you...its easy and you never get hungry. I tell all my friend about the plan....I also have lowered my blood pressure by changing to this plan. It's a Life Style change and you will LOVE the change it will make in you. Also its the only thing I have ever tried that I feel is really healthly!

I walked 45 minutes 5 days a week and 18 - 20 minutes with the bands that come with the kit twice a week. Follow the plan it works went from a size 18 to a 4-6. I never lost my hair or felt sick, felt wonderful, heartburn gone, heel spirs gone.

January 25, 2011 AT 7:53 pmI did this program a few years ago and all that I can say is that it worked beautifully for me. In 8 weeks I lost 36 pounds and 42 inches total from my body. My digestion was better and most times I couldn't eat all that I was supposed to eat because I ate 5-6 times a day. In all honesty I only worked out the 18 minutes a day twice a week, I hate to excersise and didn't even do the cardio exercises that was suggested on the plan. I can't imagine how much I could have lost if I had done that! The key is the amount of water that you drink daily. I no longer had to take my nexium because all of the heartburn went away, my joints no longer hurt and my energy went through the roof. I kept the weight off for 2 years before I gained the first pound back.

January 24, 2011 AT 2:59 pmI did this a few years back and lost 25 lbs in 6 weeks. It was AWESOME and easy. I decided to go this route rather than other diet and exercise options because the program teaches you how to correctly portion your food and the proper combination of protien, carbs and fat per meal. Also key was the fat burning cardio, which is actually lower in intensity than aerobic cardio. I'm telling you, the 6 week body makeover worked for me and was worth the money I paid for it. And now, 2 children later and needing to lose the weight again, I feel it's something I can easily repeat.

January 24, 2011 AT 1:17 pmThis program only works because it is a starvation diet, with not enough food to sustain even a 90 lb woman. (I did my own investigation.) People that have been on it long term suffer from starvation symptoms, losing hair, dry skin, etc. I'd go elsewhere for a program, especially one that has you exercising with rubber bands 30 minutes a week. I lost 40 lbs eating 5 meals a day and exercising an average of 90 minutes/day (includes walking). Any of the decent "bodybuilding" diets out there work, eating every three hours keeps you from being hungry, the exercise builds up muscle and moves metabolism in the right direction. I can now eat what I want and I don't gain weight back. In the 6 week body makeover, the weight gain after eating a few more carbs is horrendous because you're starving. STAY AWAY FROM THIS! It shouldn't even have one bone.......

November 17, 2011 AT 2:04 pmAnn- I have to disagree- I can tell you have not read the material within the book- So before you start knocking this diet you should really read it- They only tell you so much information on the infomercials. However in the book it tells you if you are of a certain height or weight you should either decrease or increase your food intake- Your metabolism will not function the way the diet is intended if you do not eat enough or too much? I have tried and been on the diet and it works for me….. And still does, I was over 100 lbs overweight..

January 22, 2011 AT 3:22 pmMichael Thurmond’s 6 Week Body Makeover worked wonders for me. I went from a tight size 22 to a size 12 in seven months - 55 pounds of fat gone. Full of energy and no muscle loss. The big plus is you really learn what, how much and when to eat so you will never gain the fat again. I highly recommend the product to everyone. Perhaps the problem Henry the Health Hound is the claim 30 pounds or slim in six weeks... I guess it depends on where you start. I did not have that result but I was down two sizes in six weeks and believe me - that was very exciting and motivating and I was well on my way to slim in 6. Michael offers an incredible program. It's a fabuous eating plan and way of life.

January 21, 2011 AT 11:10 amWell the 75 lb I have lost says it worked for me. Yes, you eat healthy foods and are incuraged to walk and, do resistance excersizes that target problem areas. For me it was more than I use to do because I was not doing anything. In short I have no complaints. I'm healthier than I have been in years and, I learned what I need to do to stay that way. Well worth the price.

January 20, 2011 AT 10:35 amThe 18 minute body sculpting program you mentioned is not the only part of the 6 Week Body Makeover. You must incorporate walking into your routine -- 45 to 60 minutes 6x per week is recommended but beginners are encourage to start slow and not overdo it. This is like many diet programs out there - it gives you a menu to follow, strength training exercises AND a menu. Naturally if you stick with it you will lose weight -- as you would with any weight loss plans that incorporates all these features. I assume this review was based only on the minimal information offered on the 6 week Body Makeover home page. I find that this "6 Week" works for me because I am the type that needs (and does best on) a "regimented" format.

Also, ive been on this diet for almost two weeks and havent worked out but i still loose weight. loosing weight with this diet all depends on your motivation and how much you really want the weight off! you just need to stick to the diet and you will loose the pounds!

January 15, 2011 AT 4:10 pmHi, I just wanted to say that I have used this diet very successfully twice before. It works. I ordered it about 9 months before my wedding 7 years ago and it was the best thing I ever did for myself. I used it after my second daughter was born and it was the only way I could have taken off the weight. I am using it again because it works. I will always have to work on keeping my weight under control, and this is a lifestyle change. It isn't a quick fix, but it does progress at a very steady pace. I can only assume from the comments you made, you have not really taken the time to read through the materials very well. As stated in other posts, you must do a cardio workout 3-4 times a week plus the 2-3 short resistance training sessions. This diet gives you the tools to understand what it takes to lose weight and get in shape, then you must actually do the work. As for the people that have said the food gets redundant and boring, you are right. If you only use the recipes that come with it, you will burn out; however, there are many alternative recipes you can find online. If you use the info that comes with the diet and get to know how you should prepare meals and snacks throughout the day, you can find a lot of choices out there. It is work, and the cooking does take time, but really, shouldn't we already be eating like this. As for me, it was the "easy way out" that gets me back in this situation, and at least I know there is something I can do to fix it before it gets back out of control. I'm just saying it does work, but you have to be willing to make the commitment. And, by the way, I looked hot for my wedding day!
ReplyAnn C. says:
January 24, 2011 AT 1:22 pmBut a you shouldn't be going "off" it, you should be able to stay on it permanently because the goal is lifestyle change not "diet". That's diet mentality. I dropped my weight (40 lbs, after menopause put it on) eating a LOT of food (just the right stuff and every 3 hours) and exercising and it doesn't come back on, ever.

January 14, 2011 AT 5:34 pmI don't know how well this works but I was ready to order, but after listening to all the other offers being offered which I said in the beginning I did not want, yet she continued to explain each one and the extra costs I asked her what the first payment would be and a payment of 19.99 for shipping and handing would be added I asked her to cancel the order. It's not that I didn't want to pay for shipping and handling, I wanted to make payments no more than 19.99 a month and my budget did not allow more than that. What upset me was that she said she could not canel the order at this time, I would have to wait 24 hours and call customer service to cancel. I was not happy with that because I had not even finalized the order and I am being told I have to wait 24 hrs. and call another number and cancel myself. This does not sound like an honest business transaction. I hope all TV offers are not handled like this.

February 7, 2011 AT 3:39 amYes Louise, most of them are. That happened to me when I ordered the magic bullet, which by the way was a rip off. They do the 10 second pulsing because the motor on the bullet is so cheap that it begins to over heat after too much use....Anyway, I encourage you to call the company back and talk to customer service. There is a way you cna order and make payments. You may have to send a M.O. each month or ask how thier payment plan works. Ask alot of questions so you fully undersstand and be FIRM to those phone salesmen. Remember it's nothing personal, they just have quotas to reach and receive certain bonuses and recognition for reaching them. If you honestly do not want any othher products they are offering, JUST SAY NO ;0) Continue to say no cause they will ask again. It is going to take you to directly say --- I'm not trying to be rude, but I am only calling today to order my Michael Thurman's 6 week body makeover kit and NOTHING else. Thank you and please process my order.---- They re going to tell you your total at the end and ask how you plan on paying for it and if you just pay X amount of $ thay'll upgrade you to express shipping ang you can enjoy it 3 days sooner, or if you pay in full they'll overnight it at no extra fee----- Seriously, ask for your payment plan and then ask about their standard shipping. Usually it's 7-10 business days. So what, we've waited this long, what's a few more days and WHA LAA! You have your wanted product or your wanted payment plan! It's a win win. You got waht you wanted and they made a sale! Give it a try and just verify with whom who speak to of the exact charges and when they'll be posted to your account. If I'm not mistaken you can even set up a payment plan where they can automatically take the $ out of your account on the certain days of your choice! Check it out, but above all MAKE SURE YOU ARE SATISFIED WITH THE AGREEMENT BEFORE YOU END THE CALL!

January 12, 2011 AT 2:51 pmI own this plan and it absolutely works ~ hands down. There are differences in eating for each body type (some need more protein than others, more carbs than others, etc). And regarding the workout twice a week? This ONLY refers to the resistance training, not cardio needs. The plan is very clear in that to be effective you need to engage in recommended cardio 4-6 times a week for 30 - 45 minutes each session. Bottomline you need to be smart in your food choices and exercise. This particular plan appealed to me b/c it is tailored to your individual needs, (not a one-size fits all fix), no weird supplements, shakes, etc., and I never go hungry. The weight falls off if you follow this plan correctly!

January 11, 2011 AT 11:10 amThank you for having this site. I'm sure you have kept more than a few people from throwing their money away and/or worse, hurting themselves. My wife and I are on the 6 Week Body Makeover. She purchased the kit because what they were saying on the infomercial coinsided with techniques I had told her had given me success in the military. We have gotten great results, however, you are correct on all accounts. The eating plan is sound and having that recipe book is a great bonus, however, unless one puts a little time aside for going on brisk walks (at least) or hitting the gym's exercise bikes, I personally do not see the posibility for the claimed results. The kit comes with a resistance band for exercising but we grew out of that in the first week. The meals are also time consuming to prepare and can become redundant if one were to eat the same thing over and over. We plan our Sunday's as a day we shop and cook up these meals for the week and store them in plastic containers in the 'frig. That way its easy to put together our lunches and snacks in the morning before work. Two years ago I lost 32 pounds using this diet and brisk walks. I am on it again and have lost 10 in the first week. Keep in mind, however, that I am at he gym spending 30 minutes on the bike and working my way to 40 minutes, and plan to add circuit training soon.

January 2, 2011 AT 8:25 amBack in 2008 I started Micheal Thurmond's Six week body makeover in mid-April. By the end of June 2008 I had lost a total of 63 pounds. This program works. It was not easy at first, but after controlling my body from cravings, it was a piece of cake. My body started working for itself. Meaning, when I went out to eat and ate something I wasn't suppose too, I lost even more weight. So I ate out maybe 3 or 4 times in that time period( not in the first six weeks). That helped switch up my eating routine and my body reacted and started burning even more fat. This is how you keep your body from plateauing. I still went to the gym, even though I didn't have too. I wanted to make sure my body toned up well. This program totally works. You have to be committed 100%. Now it is 2011, I am about to start back up again, tomorrow to be exact, and I am going to loose the rest of the weight I set out for myself the first time I tried it. I had got so comfortable and excited with the size I had got to I had stopped the program. This time I am going much further and beyond. This is the program that will take you there.

January 1, 2011 AT 8:04 pmThis plan works; one is guaranteed to lose at LEAST 5 pounds in the first week alone. In order for any plan to work one has to follow the plans directions. And yes, author, the plan calls for less calories taken, duh? How is the plan expected to work if it was otherwise? If the plan calls for a 5 oz portion of chicken, that means 5 oz not 10 oz. Unfortunately, our society has come custom to taking no accountability for their actions. After all, it’s easier to blame someone else for our own shortcomings. I am here to tell you that my sister lost 50 pounds. I lost 20 pounds. The reason why the plan worked was because we COMMITED to plan. People should not consider themselves victims and, rest assure, most these people play this role outside of “this”. BE ACCOUNTABLE. This plan works, period. Commit, don’t cheat, do the work, and you’ll get results.

December 31, 2010 AT 8:57 amI went "on plan" and lost 30 pounds in 6 months with no exercise. The way the plan teaches you what works with your body is fantastic. Not to mention the healthy ways to eat (no processed junk, low salt, etc). My body actually fought me to stay on plan when I veered off due to work obligations that prevented me from preparing the meals. I don't believe the population as a whole actually realizes how run down and sluggish all the bad foods we eat make our bodies feel. Go "on plan" for a month then try to eat what other people call regular food. It's similar to a smoker who doesn't realize they haven't been able to breathe well until they quit smoking.

December 18, 2010 AT 1:43 pmI'm not a believer in programs like this... I think permanent weight loss requires learning to eat differently. I didn't think I'd come anywhere near to losing 30 pounds in 6 weeks. I never would have tried this program if I hadn't been watching a friend of mine lose a lot of weight, and drop several sizes, using a program similar to this. I was sick and tired of being over weight. And tired of trying to limit my calories... after a month or so I just don't have the energy to keep track of calories anymore. And I also was trying to squeeze things like popcorn, ice cream and chocolate frosting into my limited calories, so cravings for those things never went away, and I seemed to become even more obsessed with when I was going to get to eat my favorite food each day. The first couple of days on the 6 Week Body Makeover were hard as my body adjusted to no salt/sugar. And it was also a challenge to figure out how to make meals/snacks that were tasty. By the end of the first week I'd lost 10 pounds. Even though I figured it was just losing water, I figured I'd try it for another week, and I lost more weight. I'm 5'6," started at 199, and after 6 weeks I'm down to 172. That's 28 pounds, and half way to my goal weight :-) I was one who harped on not losing more than 2 pounds/week, but I haven't felt this good for years, and losing this weight is a great motivator for me to continue. When I've gotten to my goal weight I hope to still eat small/regular meals and snacks. And I hope to be comfortable with the fact that I'll never be able to eat "just a little" sweets without it triggering my wanting more. And more. With this program I eat only healthy foods. I used the online support, which was very helpful. Just reading other people's posts was helpful. I didn't try calling them, so can't comment on the phone support. Re: exercise, I used to go to the gym a lot, and liked being firm. Now that I'm 50 and have a few aches/injuries, I'm focused pretty much on walking and a little weight training. I did the workout plan with this program just a couple of times, and have walked ~ twice a week. No, I'm not as firm as I want to be, but I'm not done and my clothes are getting looser and looser. I don't think any program is going to work by itself. I wouldn't have had the determination to follow through on this plan if I hadn't "hit bottom" after trying to fix the problem on my own for a few years, and if I wasn't getting good results, quickly.

It claims that the amount of fat that drains off from this method of cooking is so much better than other methods of cooking. Can you help me with this one? Thanks

November 28, 2010 AT 7:31 amI agree that you need to work out but I have been working out at minimum 30 minutes/day 6xs/week and nothing is coming off. There is something to be said for figuring out what foods to eat for your body and to lose weight. I think you underestimate that too much.
ReplyHenry says:
November 28, 2010 AT 9:38 amActually, that is exactly what I advocate--just surf around the site and you will see that I am first and foremost concerned with healthy eating. It's 2/3 what we put in our bodies, and 1/3 how we work it off! You are right on target.

November 23, 2010 AT 10:47 amDo not order the six week body make over, if there is a chance you might return it! They are not very nice to you and you have to make a few phone calls to get it back. Had I known the trouble I would have to go through to get my return, I would have NEVER ordered Michael Thurmand's six week body make over. Cindy Thompson

November 23, 2010 AT 9:25 amTo be fair, while the advertising touts two days of week of targeted sculpting exercises, the detailed instructions include a daily cardio workout. I've been on the plan for 8 days and have lost 9 pounds -- without doing the targeted sculpting. I exercised daily prior to beginning the SWBM, but I could not seem to lose the weight, even with cutting back on calories and fat. The eating plan does work. Not only has it helped to increase my metabolism, it has actually eliminated by acid reflux problem. I think the key to that benefit is the small meals, six times a day.

November 21, 2010 AT 11:46 pmThis plan does not work. And their gtd. return funds if you don't loose the weight is also false. I returned the entire package two months ago and I'm still waiting for my funds. When I call their number they keep me on hold and never return. I will be contacting the BBB and register a complaint.

I've sent the items back via UPS, verified it was delivered and signed for so should get my $$ back right? They deny they have it and have had it for 4 days. Check your cc statements, they are still charging my acct for $19.99 monthly, got that stopped today. No one has the time for this nonsense.

I've been on the plan for 4 weeks, i do cardio daily by walking I have only done the resistance program once, I've lost 10lbs and counting it's amazing I follow the diet and within the first week I saw results, when I went into the hopsital I had the muscle mass of a 60 year old I was told by my doctor.... that has changed in these 4 weeks! I needed something to give me fast results to keep my motivation level up in continuing a progam this gave me the motivation to continue on my path to a healthy weight loss to be able to stick with it. I THINK IT'S GREAT!! For me the only challenge this program gave me was that I had to eat often.

November 15, 2010 AT 5:37 amThanks so much for your review. So I would save money and do it myself if I weere a disciplined person with a healthy recipe repitoir. You are very helpful. I think it is the second time I used this site. I agree that u will have to excercise more and that you have to pay out dough. If that's it, where is the risk? ONly that it is a waste if it sits on the table opened and collecting dust. I think it might be help still for those who are visual learners. Because you have to sketch out what you want to look like. So now you get a mental picture and you are/become what you think. Well, i really want to say your reviews have been a great aide to my making a decision to buy or pass. thanks

November 12, 2010 AT 6:35 amI tried this diet for 8 weeks. It is a 100 dollar SCAM. I went by the book on eatting to loose wieght fast. It is great if you want to eat tuna and spinach and boiled eggs. The only thing I looked forward to was the oatmeal. If oatmeal is the high light of your day you can tell immediatly the diet SUCKS and the bad part is I lost no wieght. I now went back to old faithful the no or very little carbs diet and have lost 21 lbs in 5 weeks.

November 16, 2010 AT 12:43 pmIf you followed this exactly for 8 weeks, you would have lost at the least 20lbs just eating the plan way. The exercises in the plan don't cut it though. You need about 30 min a day of cardio and weight lifting. (every other day for each one) There are a lot of creative ways to make the food. Check online for support groups and help with recipes.

November 11, 2010 AT 3:04 pmI beg to differ with you since I lost 60# on this diet alone. Being physically disabled, I couldn't do the exercises I needed. However, people who knew me would say, "You're losing weight...how are you doing it?" Michael Thurman's program was the best weight loss program I have ever seen. Weight watcher's, Nutri-system, and others just never worked. You might lose weight, but then you yo-yo. In two years, I have not only kept the weight off, but have lost a few more off the program. I even "cheated some", especially at the beginning because it is a whole new way to diet, and I do believe that body types have a lot to do with your diet. Once you see the difference, this is the easiest, most organized and thought out plan I have ever seen. As a physical therapist, this is also the only diet science I have ever seen that reinforces you to "stick with it"...it is so easy! Once you start losing and gaining more energy, it becomes self reinforcing, which most diets don't do because you get bored and then cheat, then quit. My chiropractor said he could actually smell the ketones that were a result of buring off the fat. I want to lose another 30 pounds to get to my goal. I finally have enough things cleared from my deck to start again. By the time you read this, I shall have lost another 6#. My advice, be honest with yourself. Try it, you'll like it!

October 28, 2010 AT 1:01 pmThanks for the info ... my wife and I purchased the package and have, actually, lost a good bit of weight apiece. However, as one who has run for over 30 years, I can submit that: 1) portion control and carb/protein balance are the keys to a good, working metabolism, and 2) resistance alone is not enough -- you still need the aerobic/anaerobic components and weight/strength training to work with your nutrition plan.

October 18, 2010 AT 6:21 amThe 15-18 minutes per day is pertaining to the body sculpting portion with an elastic band. Michael Thurmond recommends working about 5-6 times per week for 45 min to an hour within your target heart rate for maximum fat loss. This is an excellent program. I've used it after all three of my children and have been successful shedding the excess weight. I have been able to lose about 26 lbs within the first six weeks. The reading material clearly states that you can lose up to 30 lbs in 6 weeks, and many men achieve or surpass this. Women, on the other hand, have hormonal issues to contend with. This program definitely gets two "thumbs up" from me!
Replycandace says:
November 28, 2010 AT 2:34 amIt's deceitful marketing - lies - Infomercial mentions nothing about 5-6 times per week for 45min-hour at all, but rather 15-18 min per day. No matter how you slice it up, if they don't tell you the full truth, they are dishonest. There are many many infomercials that if you watch it - can convince you of anything they tell you. Please be careful people and use your common sense!!!!

October 18, 2010 AT 8:06 pmHi Rainy, it seems like you know a lot about this program, so I had a few questions. When I bought the package it came with the elastic band, but it didn't have a hook like in the video. Instead, it came with a black fabric thing that I guess is supposed to be the same, but I couldn't figure it out. Did yours come with the door hook from the video or something more like mine???

October 12, 2010 AT 6:35 amHi ! My question has ALWAYS been - what happens to the extra skin when you lose any weight?? I'm 55, so elasticity is a thing of the past. Is surgery required ( $$ )? I've always been heavy & flabby = but after an accident I lost 30 lbs. = now I'm saggy too !! I'm glad to have lost the weight ( hope to lose more) The extra skin makes me feel fat & unattractive no matter what I wear. That is sooo depressing especially since now I have a limp ( hopefully temporary). Exercising is a challenge at this point.

October 11, 2010 AT 11:01 pmGreat program. You have to do both diet and exercise . It's very good food. You must stick to the rules. You will also feel really good, because you are eating 6 mini meals a day all fruits, vegetables and lean meats, fish and poultry. My lifestyle keeps me from sticking to any plan. I am a yoyo kind of gal. I find that ALL DIETS work if you stick to them. It doesn't matter what you do, as long as you DO IT !! Like Yogi Berra said. "If you keep on doin' what you always done, You're gonna keep on gettin' what you always got".

October 8, 2010 AT 7:58 amLosing more then 2 or 3 lbs a week is very unhealthy. Everyone wants a quick fix these days - but it took years to put on that weight and these quick fixes will back fire unless you stay with that plan practically forever. You have to make life style changes, diets don't work because once you stop the diet, the weight comes right back on and in some cases two-fold. Stop eating processed foods and drinking those high-sugar drinks - then start making "WISE" food decisions, drinking your 8 glasses of water each day, along with excercise at least 30 minutes 3 or 4 days a week and you'll be surprised with the results. AND, guess what, it doesn't cost you a thing!

September 28, 2010 AT 8:31 amSo kind of you to share your thoughts, but there are some people that can't do the workouts or daily exercise, I've been on this 6 wk workout plan going on 3 wks, lost almost 15 lbs, feeling so much better, still unable to do the full workout that goes with the program, but doing the yogo stretches instead, it's helping. My 83 yr old mother is using the program also, with great results, she walks to town every day, only a few blocks, but gets around better than I do LOL. Good luck to all on what ever way it takes to get healthy, I found this program is working for me. If my back problems would allow a good work out, it's still less expensive than having to go to a gym. If thats your thing, best wishes to you.

September 27, 2010 AT 9:09 amBeware when ordering Michael Thurmond's 6-week total body makeover. I ordered online and when I received my order confirmation there was an additional charge of $49.99 for a DVD set that I did not want, nor did I order it. I immediately contacted customer service who replied by telling me they could not correct my order because it had "already shipped out", however I have not received the order a week later. Seems like a manipulative sales tactic to me.

September 24, 2010 AT 12:39 pmI sent it back and got the refund. I am sure that lots of people out there can follow it, but it wasn't for me. Of course I will lose weight if all I eat is Tuna and Spinach..duh! I prefer Weight Watchers where you can lose weight and still be able to live life! But the WORST part about this program is not the program itself...it is the several phone calls you get from people trying to sell you herbal enhancers. I sent the program back over 6 months ago and I got another call this morning! They share your info and you are in for a slew of marketing calls. If you buy this program, get it 2nd hand on Ebay or something. DO NOT GIVE THEM YOUR PHONE NUMBER!

September 22, 2010 AT 6:34 pmI am not one to endorse anything, but I did the Six Week Body Makeover and it did work. You have got to stick to the program exactly how it tells you to. I lost 20 lbs in 4 1/2 weeks with absolutely no exeercise. I chose to do the rapid weight loss option and ate exactly how the program instructed me to and got great results. I ate 5 times a day, exactly the measurements the book said, as well as, the foods i was instructed to eat, and the weight just fell off. It is strict, no dairy, no salt, no oil, I had to adjust to the taste, but I had a goal I wanted to accomplish and I did it. The question is for the people that didn't have success, did they do exactly as instructed or did they cheat? My results, with no exercise, made me a believer.
ReplyDebbie says:
September 27, 2010 AT 8:46 pmThank you Crystal! It is not for everyone and it is a big change, but if you have a goal, you will make the changes necessary. The problem is, people want results without following a strict program. I agree with the did they cheat question.

September 22, 2010 AT 8:43 amI ordered the material 4 years ago and followed the "eating plan" religiously. I added in 5 day a week cardio and then added in the twice a week sculpting. I am a petite person, but when you are 15 lbs overweight - that is 15% of the weight I should be (and a little extra "fat" does not go well with a naturally petite frame). I lost the full 15 lbs in about 8 weeks and dropped one size (which was even loose on me). I then moved into more of a "maintenance" plan where I was not as strict. I kept the weight off for 2 years. I gradually started eating bad...then worse....then before I knew it I had gained 10 of the 15 lbs back. I just started on the plan again this week and have already lost 2 and a half pounds in 3 days. This diet works....it makes sense....but it does require smart shopping (NO SALT OR FAT) and some food prep time. I already feel better and am convinced that this is REAL. I am a body type C and am excited to be "on the plan" again!

As far as the exercise goes...the 18 min a day is only the sculpting part of the plan. The plan also encourages 30-45 min per day of cardio exercise. I have changed my life because of this "diet". I have cheated...no one is perfect but I work hard to make great choices and I dont mind doing it and exploring new foods and tastes. I have currently gone from a size 18 to a size 12 and I feel great. Im never hungry either. So it may not be for everyone but it was for me.

I did all the excersie, ate what they told me but still only 7-9 pounds the very first week. I cant beileve all these other people lose a ton of weight in the same time and me, nothing, I still lose and gain between 8-4 pounds never over or under and I have been off the diet for about 6 months. Maybe it works for some but not all. I got depressed and I listen to the ER cd but it only made me fill worse besuase it didnt help me to navigate through the program and over that hill. I was following the program but I didnt lose what I needed to, not even close.
