April 24, 2013 AT 4:30 amHi. Wondering if you've looked into hyaluronic acid for joint pain. I have used it for a couple of years now because it nearly eliminates pain in my left knee. I use Purity Products H.A., but am wondering if you know of a less expensive brand that effective. I tried one and it was completely ineffective for me. I realize there are no hard core studies on H.A. taken orally -- there has only been serious research on the injectable H.A., with pretty good results -- but as this must be the case with many supplements you look into, I thought I'd see if you've looked into anecdotal evidence of its efficacy. I'd like to be able to tell people more than just "it helped me." Thanks so much. Looks like you're doing great work here. Much appreciated.

We have so many laws that restrict our freedoms yet you can steal money thru lies and halftruths forever and nobody does anything. THIS DOES NOT HAPPEN IN OTHER COUNTRIES LIKE GREAT BRITAIN OR EVEN CANADA,Why? Because their government puts their people first not business.

May 16, 2012 AT 6:20 amSorry if a partial comment thread got posted in part only--it was me--pushing the wrong buttons. I wanted to say thanks for the splash of cold water about Nopalea. Out of desperation, I was actually considering the idea of a purchase--just to see. I would not have gone through with it (I like to think) because I know better. I wonder if these people were or are associated with Amway--the spiel seems familiar. Anyway, I am thinking that there are reasonable facsimiles to be found at the Health Store and that in combination with other fruits and veggies, herbs and roots, it might help a little ... as an adjunct--but not as an essential element to the overall progress of alleviating chronic inflammation, fatigue and various other afflictions associated now, with inflammation. Thanks, Candace

April 29, 2012 AT 8:07 amHi Henry, Does the product Keratin shampoo and conditioner really restore loss of hair . And if so what are the side effects.
ReplyHenry says:
April 29, 2012 AT 1:55 pmI believe keratin is used in straightening or strengthening of the hair. From an online source, I've found that: 'keratin refers to a family of fibrous structural proteins. Keratin is the key of structural material making up the outer layer of human skin. It is also the key structural component of hair and nails.' I've never heard of it for restoring hair loss, though.

March 8, 2012 AT 2:28 pmI am reading your sample menus for weight loss. You advocate eating protein at every meal (for women). Are your suggestions for 5 meals per day or is that simply 5 samples of meals from which to choose 3 daily meals? If it is five, it surely sounds like a lot of calories. If I need to lose 10 pounds, would this be a good plan for me? It would obviously be easy to follow and very satisfying.
ReplyHenry says:
March 8, 2012 AT 3:17 pmYes, as it states, everyone should be eating five (or six) small meals a day, every three hours (or two!). Small meals, healthy proteins, fats and carbs. This keeps the metabolism up and the body burning calories, and keeps you from getting so hungry you overeat. Good luck!

ReplyHenry says:
March 1, 2012 AT 10:06 amIt is a high rep program, so it should 'lean you out' rather than bulk you up. If you're close to a gym, they do offer Les Mills Pump classes, and that may be a good option for you to try it out. Most gyms will offer you a free day pass to check it out!

February 28, 2012 AT 1:19 pmI used the 6 week body makeover plan for a bout 8 weeks and lost almost 30 lbs. I did cardio every other day and used the resistance bands for the "weight" training. It worked well. The only difference I see between your eating plan and the 6WBM is that you encourage a healthy fat with each meal and you don't restrict certain fruits and vegetables because of "body type." June 28, 2011 AT 12:34 pmI have read a couple of articles on your site...very informative and the information is right in line with other things I've learned/read over the years. Thank you. I'll keep reading. One thing that I have not gotten a complete understanding of over the years is: Is there a minimum number of calories that a person (who is trying to loose weight) should consume daily, regardless of activity level? Weight loss shows talk about "net calories" and a negative caloric day....however, these shows are having people workout 4-6 hours a day and burn 6,000 calories. I don't have time for that, nor do I want to do that. I burn somewhere between 275-400 calories a day. There are days that I don't eat much and want to make sure that I am not making myself fatter! Can you give some insight?

April 4, 2011 AT 3:42 pmI have recently become more aware of the effects of candida albicans on the metabolic system in addition to the digestive tract problems caused by an unhealthy overgrowth of this "yeast". Some sources also show a relation to fibromyalgia and related joint and muscle discomfort. I have been suffering from all of these issues and recently started having some skin problems too. I am "shedding" skin around my toes, hands, and ears. I have developed a "sour" vinegary smell and am starting to produce sebaceous cysts. I suspect that these symptoms are all related and would like help but of course, doctors don't know what to do and don't necessarrily agree. I have seen a product called "Three lac" from Japan that is supposed to help. Do you know anything about it?

February 6, 2011 AT 10:57 amI just found your website and have read several articles regarding weight loss and dieting. Thanks for doing a lot of research on this subject. I have recently started with a weight loss facility called Slim 4 Life and have had good sucess with weight loss, overall I am pleased with the short term results. However their pills and supplements are outrageously expensive, I went to Walgreens and found a similar fish oil supplement to theirs that was less than half the cost, 1 of their "snacks" which come 6 small bags for $15, I found at Costco for about 1/4 the cost. I want to continue with this program but can't really afford the expensive "add on's" that the programs requires.

February 4, 2011 AT 8:00 amI just wanted to say Thank You for doing what you do. I just read the 30 day shred Jillian Michaels review. I totally agree with what you are saying...I am working out with it now...I believe I could lose 40 plus lbs too if I had Jillian in my face and all I did was exercise all the time. I think that people who purchase the items you review need to realize that getting healthy takes work and at your own pace...but not to give up...it takes time...there is no miracle dvd, food just work and time. Unless you have the ideal situation like the set up of Biggest Loser it will not come close to happening that way... I still like the video and how it work out is working for me...Thanks! And Hang in there everyone...patience...you will feel better every work out and change will come!

January 31, 2011 AT 2:20 pmHello, can you tell me if Adapexin-P 37.5mg is safe and effective? Do you recommend this pill?. Thank you
Replydrcathy says:
February 1, 2011 AT 12:39 pmI suspect that Adipexin is probably the same as Adipex, which is phentermine. This is a controlled, presecription only drug which was a component of the Fen-phen diet pill (now banned). It is effective and has been around for a long time but it is not entirely without risk. High blood pressure, agitation, headache, and heart valve damage are possible side effects. I do not advise using this medicine unless you are under a doctor's care to monitor for these problems.

January 7, 2011 AT 5:08 pmPlease research HGC diet drops. It's been all over the news as the miracle diet that works. They said not one person has asked for a refund.
ReplyHenry says:
January 7, 2011 AT 7:54 pmI write about this one all the time, Vincent. HCG is a very dangerous diet, not FDA approved...it causes your body to go into starvation mode and eat your own muscles...the thyroid can be damaged, hair loss, dizziness, irritability occur...etc etc on and on...It is not the drops that induce the weight loss, but the 500 starvation diet. Don't do it!
ReplySherry says:
January 7, 2011 AT 9:52 amHi thank you so much for your investigations and help. I have started the Health hounds fast, safe, and effective way to lose weight quickly, and i have a couple questions, one can you eat any snacks (like fruit, veggies) between meals? 2 Meal 1 is that all one breakfast? Do you have any other menu samples ? It seemed like an awful lot of food and do you have to eat all of that ? and if not what can i skip on or just cut down? Is it the amount of each thing you eat that counts? Sorry for all the questions but i am very positive about this plan and i think i can actually do this . Oh can i drink some coffee if i don't use sweetner?
ReplyHenry says:
January 7, 2011 AT 1:17 pmYes, you do eat five small meals throughout the day to keep your metabolism up! Watch those portion sizes though! Black coffee or teas are fine, but drink coffee in moderation. You might try Stevia or Truvia as an all-natural sweetener choice.

ReplyHenry says:
January 6, 2011 AT 12:04 pmOH, yes, Sherryle, I answer this one a lot. There was also a show on ABC last night that looked into diets, and HGC was one of them. HCG is a dangerous diet. You only take in 500 calories per day...so of course you lose weight! It's not the pills or drops...but soon your body starts to starve and will begin to 'eat' its own muscles. The thyroid becomes 'out of whack' and yes, things like hair loss occur. It's dangerous, simply put, do not do it.

December 8, 2010 AT 11:04 amYeah, I wanted to know if you have heard of Jen Fe by Nexagen USA, it is a patch that is suppose to be all natural and separate fat from you muscle. I have always had to fight with my weight and I have successfully lost on my own before I had kids, and now it is even more difficult to lose. I don't want the short cut but in times of desperation if feels like the thing to do.
ReplyHenry says:
December 8, 2010 AT 2:15 pmWell, I haven't heard of this, but I can only reiterate...there is no magic pill, or patch in this case. I can also tell you that there is no way for the body to magically separate fat from the muscle. I went to their site, and did a bit of digging around on the web, and it seems this is a blend of stimulants that they promise will increase your metabolism and energy. There are no client testimonials, and honestly, it seems to be just a jolt of guarana...which is not really healthy. Reviewers on other sites complained of allergic reactions to the patch itself, problems with blood pressure, etc. It does seem a bit fishy to me!

ReplyHenry says:
December 5, 2010 AT 12:47 pmHi, Shell. As I've stated time and time again, the HCG 'diet' is a dangerous thing for your body. Anybody would lose weight on 500 calories a day! It is not the supplements or drops that you take. And this 500 calorie diet forces your body into starvation mode, which means your body will start to 'eat' your muscles. Dangerous.

Thank you in advance for your help and putting together this information!
ReplyHenry says:
November 21, 2010 AT 11:52 amAh! There are so many great substitutions for meat. You can eat so many different things, that are still very high in protein. If you have a good market near you, such as a Whole Foods, you can find foods that run the gambit--soy and tofu options of burgers, ham, bacon, turkey and the like. Tempeh is a good alternative, high in protein...and on and on. Peanut butter is a vegan/vegetarians (as is almond butter, cashew butter, etc...). Hope this helps!!

He is a medical Dr. so it should be safe right! WRONG! My mom my self and 10 other women in the community test phisically healthy for the new program. The Dr. said that the daily shot was the hormone extract from pregnant mare urine, that it would speed up the metobolism for weight loss. With in 1 year of going on the shot and diet all 12 of us was sick. Most developed female cancer, others heart problems and I with thrombophlebitis. within a year of this, all with cancer were dead. Those with heart problems never got better. I suffered for years with the thrombo. Did we lose weight? yes but the diet was no more than 700 calories a day. Those that did survive had horrible weight gain. Was it worth it? NO! The Dr. gave up the program and marked it unsafe. It is now surfacing again in a differnt title and label but none the less still the same. DON"T DO IT!!!! from words of wisdom

ReplyHenry says:
November 9, 2010 AT 5:06 pmHi, Barbara. I answer this one a lot. HCG is a diet that first became popular back in the 70s, but doctors quickly stopped prescribing this as it became clear that this diet is very bad for your body. OF COURSE you will lose weight, but that is because you only consume 500 to 700 calories per day! It has nothing to do with the ‘drops’ or ‘tablets’ that go along with this crazy program. Your body begins to go into starvation mode, and will actually ‘eat’ your own muscles, not a good thing…

ReplyDeanna Holmberg says:
October 28, 2010 AT 5:25 pmYes portion control is healthy, keep in mind you don't have to give up quantity. There are many ways to eat right. Lots of veggies is the number one way. You can still eat plenty, just more often yet in smaller amounts throughout the day. There are also many many many ways to prepare vegetable dishes so that the said veggie has a different flavor and you don't get bored and you don't have to give up meat either, you can add a chicken breast or lean beef to the veggie dish. Also exercise is a MUST for any diet to be successful, as it will burn the calories you take in through the often yet portioned meals throughout the day. If you eat healthy, and don't do the exercise you will only gain rather than lose weight.

October 7, 2010 AT 5:32 pmSome luck I have had controlling the tinnitus. Exercise to lower blood pressure, drink lots of water. Limit alcohol and coffee consumption and do lose weight. Keep water and dust out of your ears as much as possible. Use a hair-dryer on low to dry out ears. No Q-tips! Keep cold wind out of your ears and keep water out as much as possible. Clean outside of ears gently with alcohol. Small amounts of Alprazolam or Hydrocordone will help you sleep. You need lots of Vitamin C and B Complex vitamins and lots of sleep! Loud noises and stress are bad for tinnitus. You may damage your inner ear if you find you have to yell at people who refuse to wear hearing aids. Don't let them do that to you. Tinnitius can be controlled.

October 5, 2010 AT 6:10 amMy friend went online and tried to order the 30-day free trial of Sensa and they "said" it was a problem with her credit card number and date. True it clearly states on the front of her card that it's a debit card, but she still has the money in her account and is worried she will be charged for the product. So my question is will she still be charged for the product do they sell your information, such as your name, credit card information, address and phone number? If she is charged what should she do?

October 3, 2010 AT 11:24 amHi Henery, I was wondering if you have checked into the GM foods and what your thoughts are on this. All of the information I have found on these foods has been to cause seriously negative results on the human body. I am seriously concerned about this but I don't want to overreact. If I actually deleted these food out the foods I purchase/eat, it would entail a remodification of my entire life. This would not be an easy thing to do; however, if the claims are ture, I could help, maybe cure, many of the health problems I have. I have been suffering from Lupas, fibromyalgia, RA, and other Autoimune diseases for some time now. I am only 40 years old and feel like I am 80+. I have been trying to find some natural alternatives to the steroids my doctors have me on because they are creating some other very negative health issues that are out of control. The doctors want to add another pill for each side effect and before I knew it, I was up to 26 pills a day. This is not a quality life and I have to change it. I want to take control of my own health and life. Amber

September 30, 2010 AT 2:32 pmHenry: FYI: I've done the 6 wk body make over - and it worked for me. My Dr. deemed it safe for my hypoglycemia - actually the eating small amounts 5 to 6 times a day is recommended for hypoglycemia. The thing is though - it requires a lot of cooking ahead of time and not eating a lot of crap out. If you can do that - and eat the combination of food suggested - it will work, and you HAVE to exercise walk or something 30 minutes every day. Common sense really when you think about it.

ReplyApril says:
October 2, 2010 AT 12:50 amI have also tried the 6 week body makeover and it does work for me. I agree that you do have to exercise 30 minutes a day but doesn't it say that in the accelerated fat burning program in the book they give you? so it's actually telling you that you should exercise for 30 min as well as the 18 minute targeting exercises right? I lost 40 lbs in 6 months. It wasn't 6 weeks but it still worked.

September 30, 2010 AT 11:56 amHenry, Thanks for the commentary. Ever heard of or investigated the Lap Band? They do a heavy commercial blitz out west here with billboards and TV on losing weight with the expense born by your insurance company. Steve
ReplyGlenn Hartzog says:
October 5, 2010 AT 2:07 pmSteve, A close relative (an experienced nurse) originally planned to do the lapband, but for medical reasons their doctor recommended and preformed gastric bypass (GB) instead. Two years later they are glad they went that route. From personal experience with GB and observations of lapband patients, they have concluded that although GB is more invasive up front, it is much less maintenance over the long haul.

October 1, 2010 AT 4:34 pmI bought the 7 day belly blast diet. I am 41, female, post-hysterectomy, slow thyroid, and horribly overweight. I never had a problem with weight until my gyn started experimenting with medications to help reduce the tumors on my uterus. Before I knew it, I was 60 pounds overweight, unhappy, and depressed. In the end, I had to have a hysterectomy but the medications had already taken their toll. So here I am. I am on day one of the belly blast diet. So far, I have not been hungry once. In fact, I feel as if I am eating constantly. I am looking forward to day two! I will keep you all updated. :)

I bought Tai Chi green tea from health food store for $20 box and you get 20 bags – quite a bit of money if it isn’t truly green tea beneficial ???
ReplyHenry says:
September 21, 2010 AT 8:34 pmOne thing you must know about green tea is that to really reap the benefits, science shows us that we must drink about eight cups a day. Now, that being said, any little bit helps. It does have a great many benefits. However 'truly green tea'? Don't think that paying $20 versus $2 at the grocery store is getting you any more bang for your buck. I looked at the ingredients, and the Tai Chi green tea and the green tea in the box at the grocery store have the same benefits...

September 18, 2010 AT 2:26 amIf you remember, Oprah lost an amazing amount of weight on either Medi-Fast or Opti-Fast. They're both all-liquid diets (or at least they were when she was on it and when I was on it). Yes, if you stick with it or even cheat a little, you're going to lose weight and drinking five shakes a day will make you feel satisfied. The problem is your body's metabolism slows down so much that when you start eating solid food, it will take a lot of work not to gain back the weight. Oprah now says it wasn't wise to go on an all-liquid diet.

ReplyHenry says:
September 11, 2010 AT 10:28 amHCG is an unhealthy diet. With HCG you are on a 500 calorie (or thereabouts) diet, so anyone would lose weight! It's not the drops! However, a 500 calorie diet forces your body into a starvation-type mode, so your body starts to basically 'eat' your muscles...this is so bad for your body!

September 3, 2010 AT 3:12 amHi Doris, If eating before you workout impedes your progress, then definitely make your post workout meal your breakfast. The post workout meal is much more important, as it replenishes energy stores and feeds the muscles. Great work on keeping at it!

August 29, 2010 AT 7:22 pmI noticed you do not mention much dairy in your meal plans. What about, milk, cheese, etc?
ReplyHenry says:
August 30, 2010 AT 8:57 amHi Fran. It's true that I do not mention dairy too much, and there is a reason for that. Humans are the only animals that continue to drink milk into adulthood, and there are many research studies out there that show milk/dairy are incompatible with the human body. You can find a ton of information, good, solid, researched information on this fact. If you must have dairy, choose only low fat versions, and have it in moderation. If you can change your palette, try things like soy, rice or almond milk, and soy cheese and ice cream. You may turn up your nose at it, but this hound's nose knows they taste great!

ReplyHenry says:
August 28, 2010 AT 4:09 pmYou want to stay with things that are all natural, like Agave...There are dangers associated with Stevia as well, and you can find that it is not FDA approved. Truvia is a new one that the jury is still out on. August 1, 2010 AT 3:49 amYou have an outstanding helpful site. I just threw my bottle of chromium picolinate away. I shuddered at possible kidney damage as I am just recently having my kidneys monitored by my physician. What's your take on chromium polynicotinate? Wonder if I should throw it away too!

August 1, 2010 AT 4:12 amHey Ron! It was great to hear your story and I'm very glad that my supplement ingredient resource guide has helped you. As for my take on chromium polynicotinate, I'll see about getting that added to the guide. What you should really do is mention both of these to your doctor and get their take on them. They should be able to provide you with even better information especially as it pertains to your particular case. Your Pal In Cyberspace, Henry

I need to cancel my next order as I cannot afford another shipment. I also do not like the product. Can you help me contact them? I do not like the way they do business by not letting me get through to them on the phone .

July 22, 2010 AT 5:18 amHey! at one time Wal-Mart had a drink mix of their own that had no sugar or artifical sweetner in it but they stopped carrying it and changed this year to a new kind of their own product and now it contained aspertane (sp) in it. The other had no calories this has 5 calories, check it out. I do not think any artifical sweetner is good because of the possible affects it can bring on such as migraine headaches. Read up on them, they are trigered by many things. Organic? Read a lot about this what is in the ground that they raise organic crops or use other things that they say that are "ORGANIC". That does not always mean that it is good. Read, Read, Read!

July 18, 2010 AT 3:51 amHenry, have you done any research on SlimXtreme. I bought a bottle because my doctor told me his girlfriend had great success with it. He told me she lost almost 30 lbs in a month. He told me it truly took her appetite away. He read the ingredients and from what he saw there were not harmful ingrdients and his girlfriend had no problem. She told her other friends and he told me they lost weight. When I took the pill the first couple of days, I was so excited, It took my appetite away immeditely. I had to force myself to eat. The first 3 or 4 days I was so happy to have found something that took my appetite away with so side effects. Then it happen. After about the 3rd or 4th day, I could not go to sleep. Mind you I took 1 pill at about 6am and would try to go to bed about 10 pm. For 3 days straight I could not go to sleep. I checked out the ingredients and from my research there does not seem to be any caffiene listed, but something is in one of those ingredients that acts like caffiene. I am very very sensitive to caffiene, that is why I was so excited when I did not see that ingredient listed. The online advertisements claim "no side effects at all" What is your take on SlimXtreme. if it were not for me not being able not to go to sleep, (I would just lay there in bed and wait for the sun to come up) This would have worked for me. There is something in the capsule that they are not telling as far as the caffiene effect.

July 9, 2010 AT 1:47 pmI red your comment about Airborne. I was aware of the fact that they misled customers in their marketing advertisement. My question is does it contain what it says on the ingredient list? If so how can it be bad for you (vit A/C/E, Magnesium/Zinc etc etc). When you have a cold it's not a bad idea to get all the above vitamins/minerals

July 1, 2010 AT 7:52 pmI just spoke to a friend that mentioned that he lost 70lbs in just 2 months with some kind of little needles to the belly. Some kind of stuff that he injected and he lost a ton of weight and can eat whatever he wants and he has not gained the weight back. Have you heard of this? I don't know the product name, but curious. I would assume there has to be health issues with that kind of drastic, needle stabbing weight loss.
